Frederick J. Benson Town Beach — Attraction in New Shoreham

Great for families with kids or anyone who likes a tame beach. Waves are mild, not too high and very manageable for the average swimmer. The lifeguard is right in the middle of the beach, and the areas on either side are not guarded. You can fly a kite in the non-guarded places. Easy access (flat and close) from the parking lot. Lovely, uncrowded beach the days we were there midweek. The water is crystal clear & the sand is soft. There are chairs & umbrellas available for rental. Paid showers are also available. It cost $2/token which gives you 4 minutes to rinse off. The confession stand serves for prepared by Rebecca's & our food was delicious & freshly made. Not the most scenic or picturesque beach in the world, or even in North Eastern US, but the stark view of the Atlantic is something. The sand isn't super clean and is fairly rocky. The stretch by the lifeguard station gets super crowded. At least leashes dogs are allowed on the more remote stretches.
