I genuinely hate to give a Black woman-owned business a poor rating but my experience with Teri was the worst I’ve ever had at a salon.
From the moment I stepped inside, Teri was unwelcoming and unprofessional. It wasn’t my choice to book with her — I had seen her once before and wasn’t impressed, but I chalked it up to an off day. This time, my sister, who has known Teri for years and wanted to treat me, booked and paid $130 for the appointment which consisted of washing and braiding my hair and molding and curling a wig.
For context, I’ve been battling fibroids for several years, a struggle that has deeply impacted both my body and my mental health. I’ve lost interest in many things I once took pride in — my hair being one of them, as much of it has fallen out as a result of my condition. Wanting to lift my spirits, my sister, who has witnessed and supported me throughout this journey, arranged the appointment as a thoughtful gift.
Instead of offering even basic kindness, Teri made me feel like a burden rather than a paying customer. I arrived before her (even though I was her first client) and was met with irritation, not warmth. She scoffed when she saw my braids still in and, without a word, handed me a comb to take them out myself while she restocked inventory. Fine — I handled it.
While waiting for my hair to be washed (only one sink was working), Teri — who barely spoke to me, much less asked how I was doing — asked me to order Uber Eats for her daughter and said she would reimburse me. I tried, but an address issue prevented the order from going through.
After she finally washed my hair, I sat under the dryer, then waited again for her to braid my hair so I could wear the gorgeous wig my sister gifted me. When it was finally my turn, Teri asked if I could wait even longer so she could service another client first. I politely declined — which she clearly didn’t appreciate.
Maybe that’s why my wig ended up looking worse than it did fresh out of the box. She barely layered one side and curled it so poorly that by the time I arrived at my event just a few hours later, it looked completely flat and unstyled.
When I returned for her to properly style the wig, Teri, rather than responding with empathy and professionalism, reacted with pettiness and immaturity — conduct unbecoming of someone with her age and purported expertise.
Whether out of respect for my sister’s longstanding relationship with her or simply because it is not in my nature to treat others poorly, I extended far more grace to Teri than she ever extended to me. I expected not only competent work but basic human decency — and received neither, all while sitting in a salon that blared gospel music in the background. Perhaps Teri would do well to reflect on...
Read moreThis post is not so much a review as I did not have the opportunity to get my hair braided. I called and asked for an appointment same day, the young lady on the phone was happy to accommodate me, I let her know I had to be somewhere at 8pm, she gave me a 3pm appointment , I arrived around 2:45. The young lady who was to do my hair so i thought could not do my specific style and asked if could do something else, not a problem. There was a stylist next to her doing hair. At about 2:55 they realized that the stylist doing my hair, had another client at 3pm and the one next to her was to do my hair. She asked if I was ok with waiting, as I had a simple style, I said sure how long will you be, she stated about an hour. As it approached 4pm and I noticed she was no where near done, I decided to reschedule my appointment. I decided not to keep the appointment, as a business owner myself, I appreciate that they wanted to accommodate me, however, if you can not actually accommodate, do not tale the appointment. The place was clean, and for the most part the stylist seemed nice. I will not be making any...
Read moreI went in yesterday as an emergency client. I haven't had my hair done in a while and the fact that I was just a walk-in has made my experience all the better. My boyfriend called this place for me because I was too hysterical to call. I went in with badly damaged ends. I had stopped relaxing my hair for a while so that could have been the cause of it. Tasha has helped me out so much. I wanted to just completely chop all of my hair off but she helped me comb out the part of my hair that was knotted up and luckily , I still had some hair that was left. I felt sooooooooo good after she helped me and I can't thank her enough. I will be returning to actually get a style. I have been threw so much last year and this year. Who knew helping me out with my hair could actually...
