Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex — Attraction in New York

I was here for the indoor field and track my first time here I must say it was a horrible experience number one there's no parking on the premises the parking lot was too packed I guess so you had to find parking anywhere I want the parking a quarter mile away had no choice but to park my vehicle on the grass because there was no parking I do not know the area. Then once you get inside you find out that there's no place to sit because they only have bleachers on one side of the indoor facility so I'm already two strikes out no place to park no place to sit. Then after my 3-hour ride I needed to use the restroom what a joke that is and they let the maintenance guy become security guard telling people which line they need to be in either a stall side or urinal and more good news there's only three urinals so if you make a mistake you're not sure which line you're in because you've never been there before you got to get to the back of the line. That took approximately 40 minutes alone just trying to use the bathroom. And after my 3-hour ride this was definitely not pleasant but wait there's more. Now once you're done using the bathroom after a 3-hour ride no breakfast no lunch you need something to eat I got two containers of watermelon that were rotten one cold cheeseburger and french fries $45 later. I now try to find a place where I can throw the food down my throat I go inside and I cannot find a seat anywhere me and my family had no choice but to sit on the steps like a bunch of other people were doing thank God an accident did not happen because we were way packed it if a disaster would have happened it would have been even worse. Now 7 hours later we leave and I find a parking ticket on my vehicle that's parked on the grass not blocking anybody not causing any Hazard not like every rule book that was broken in this facility first of all the Board of Health needs to go there because there's definitely not enough bathrooms the concession stands are way too small you can't host a large event like this for one day it needs to be spread out at least two days make it fair to the families that are traveling far and for god sakes put more seating in it's ridiculous and I believe this is a state-run facility and if you don't have enough parking to accommodate you shouldn't hand out tickets when people have no choice but to park anywhere you ruined our day so shame on you for building such an asinine building that cannot accommodate the amount of people that were there plain and simple and you need more bathrooms and more concession stands your vending machines even sold out I couldn't even get a bottle of water shame on all you money...

So I absolutely loved this complex going into my invitational today. That all changed though. There was one security guard who did nothing besides yell at us. He almost made me miss my race because he told me to go the wrong way. So not only is he power hungry and yells at everyone but he doesn’t even know his own rules. He’s also super hypocritical, there was one thing that my team wasn’t even doing but he yelled at us because he thought we were the ones doing it. Not even five minutes later I saw that same security guard do the thing we weren’t allowed to. He wouldn’t even listen to the rules that he enforced. He also said to us that we had to leave from the clerking area, I tried many times to explain to him that I was there for a reason and that I was giving something to a teammate. He kicked us out of the area because we weren’t supposed to be there. While he’s yelling at us another group of 10+ kids who weren’t supposed to be there walked right past him. I pointed it out to him and he didn’t do anything about it. It’s almost like he picked favorites and it was very unfair. There was another point in the beginning of the meet where he was yelling at me for “schemeing” which was ludicrous because I was watching the races going on. I tried to explain that to him and he threatened to disqualify my school. He was going to disqualify my school because we were watching the meet. That one guard thoroughly ruined my experience at the meet. Every other official and guard was nice and respectful, that one man was nasty and not professional in his work. I have never met a person who left such a bad impression on me after a single day. That man should be fired or disciplined. Very clean, affordable, spacious and comfortable facility! Conveniently located across from the beach, a great way to cool down after a workout. Staff have always been friendly and available to help, never had a problem.

While the recreation rooms could be bigger, there is plenty of equipment and space for anything you might want to do at a rec center. Plenty of water foundations throughout the facility.

Track season throughout the year does make the hours of operation confusing at times, but the rec center usually has a schedule you can take with you with the specific hours listed on a calendar.

The facility also has very clean showers, locker rooms, and multi purpose rooms with a large variety of equipment (some for fitness activities and some for desks or programs).

No wifi and difficult to find cell signal on the ground level. Recommend downloading music or videos if that's what helps you workout.

Parking - free and covered right in front. plenty of spots. charging available for electric vehicles as well. parking is also available across the street at the beach lot if it does become full.

Membership - from the parks department. seniors, veterans, IDNYC card holders, and people with disabilities get discounted annual memberships. youth (under 24) get free annual memberships. adult price is either $100 or $150 based on whether or not you want pool access.

Love what they do for the local community, such as donation drives, family activity programs, and park cleanups. Also - regular competition and recreation team opportunities to sign up for, especially in the summer!
