South Beach, Staten Island is a great experience! It is 'well maintained' and 'laid back.' People were enjoying the beach and boardwalk... it is 'quite scenic' in many spots and leads to a great 'greenway' trail along Ft. Wadsworth... heading in the direction of the Verazanno Bridge. It is part of 'Gateway National Park' in that area but 'South Beach' is 'a place onto itself' with great recreational (and some dining) opportunities. "I took the S53 Bus from Brooklyn and it was the same price as any other one... I loved that and the ride over the Verazanno was great! I used Google Maps (heheh) to find it after being dropped at 'Lily / McLean' ...the 'blue dot' that shows where you are was ideal for this...
Read moreWe visited briefly on a Sunday afternoon. The beach was clean. Decent boardwalk and place to buy burgers and ice cream. This is the kind of beach for playing in sand, and wading. There was a sign warning of potential waste in water due to storm runoff. I wouldn’t swim in it but got in knee deep. Many families and children playing on beach....
