Mixed Experience โ Kayla Was Amazing, But Management Needs a Reset
I recently visited Trinity Hair Braiding Place out of convenience, as my regular braiders in Harlem were unavailable and Iโm based in Queens. I found the salon on Google and called early in the morning. The owner (I believe her name is Trinity) told me I could come anytime, so I prepped my hair and headed over around 12:15 PM as instructed.
Unfortunately, I wasnโt taken until 2:30 PM, despite being told the stylist was โon her wayโ multiple times. I remained patient and understanding โ I know salons get busy โ but what bothered me most was the dishonesty and lack of communication. I was told someone was coming when in reality, they werenโt, and the story kept changing. Had I been told the truth, I couldโve used that time to prep for an event I had later that evening. Because of this delay, I missed my lash appointment, and my entire schedule was thrown off.
Now onto pricing: I received 12 stitch braids in the front with no added hair, and 4โ5 regular cornrows in the back to prep for a half wig. I was charged $150, which I found extremely overpriced, especially considering this wasnโt a full head, nor a feed-in or box braid style. I was told it was โ$20 per stitch braid,โ which feels excessive. Realistically, this style shouldโve been $90โ$100, and I wouldโve understood a slight increase for the back โ but $150 was not reflective of the service provided.
Adding to the frustration, other customers in the salon were also complaining about scheduling issues and being skipped. One man had even traveled from Jersey for a specific braider who wasnโt there โ another case of overpromising and underdelivering.
Now โ the highlight of my visit: Kayla. Kayla, you are an angel. Young, professional, gentle, and incredibly talented. You braided with care (no tension), styled with precision, and even took the time to place my half wig and fluff it out โ something you did purely out of kindness. You made me feel seen, and despite everything, you were the reason I left smiling. You have a very bright future and are a true example of what excellent service looks like.
What deeply disturbed me, however, was seeing Kayla being publicly scolded by the owner simply for having a friendly conversation with me and taking pictures of my finished hair. Thereโs nothing wrong with a young, talented braider growing her own clientele and connecting with people who appreciate her work. She should be encouraged and uplifted, not controlled. Attempting to limit her growth by forbidding her to share her number or engage with clients shows a scarcity mindset โ not leadership. - especially when your leadership can work on customer service.
Bottom line: Kayla saved the experience, and sheโs the only reason Iโd consider returning. But Trinity โ if you want people to come back, itโs important to value their time, communicate honestly, price fairly, and treat your team with respect. I even asked about coming back in two weeks to redo just the front and was told Iโd still have to pay $120 again โ despite all that happened. That, to me, was disappointing and unprofessional.
With a few key changes โ especially in how staff and customers are treated โ this salon could be...

Plus they over charge my wife for a messy braiding job. Another women was there and they had 3 women working on her hair. When my had one inexperienced women working alone . The customer was horrible ,this spot is over priced as well .my wife said she would never go back to such a place like this.
They should be ashamed of them selves showing favoritism to regular customers and not to someone who is new. I want people to know that you don't do business like that.my wife said she would never go back there again to get corn rolls or any other kind...
