This used to be my favorite boba shop in Newark because of the variety of drink options. I don't tolerate caffeine very well, and KFT has several caffeine-free options. My favorite is the Winter Melon tea, and up until recently I never had any issues.
I don't know if there have been staff/management changes but for the past few months, whenever I try to order the Winter Melon tea, they almost always make the drink wrong. There seems to be confusion about the difference between Winter Melon tea and Winter Melon Green tea. I clarify when ordering that I would like the Winter Melon tea, NOT the one with Green tea. I'll watch the barista enter in the correct order on the kiosk, and then they'll proceed to make it with Green tea anyway. The most recent time that this happened to me (this past Sunday), I kindly asked the employee to remake it without Green tea as I'm sensitive to caffeine. I don't think I have ever asked any food or drink service worker to remake something that I ordered because I would hate to make anyone's shift more difficult, but this has happened so many times that I felt frustrated. She remade the drink which I was appreciative of, but it was still not right and tasted pretty bad. I asked for a refund at that point because I felt guilty for inconveniencing the staff – but these drinks are expensive (ie. the hot Winter Melon Tea is $7 if you tip 20%, which I always do). The staff member who refunded me seemed pretty frustrated at my request, but I'm sorry, I'm not going to repeatedly settle for a drink that I did not order.
I empathize with the workers who are making these drinks – KFT is pretty popular and they seem to be understaffed. There are a lot of drinks on the menu to keep track of too, so I can see how there would be some confusion from time to time. But the drinks are not worth the money if they are continuously incorrect. I'm not one to take time to write reviews very often, but I wanted to provide this feedback in the hope that there will be...
Read moreEdit- It's got worse. 02/10/24 - We came around 4 pm and they had a sign that said "temporarily closed" at the cashier. He was too overwhelmed and the only one. We had to leave. 02/17/24 - As soon as we walked in, one of the employees just said "no more bubbles". No sorry, nothing and didn't even look at us in the face while he did it. And no, we were nowhere near the closing hours. A boba shop out of boba and he had no plans of making more. 2 times we drove all the way and had to leave without even getting anything.
As weird as it sounds Don't come here unless it is a busy day / night. That's the only way you can get decent / fresh toppings. I come here to get a classic boba milk tea sometimes on monday and tuesdays but the boba is so hard and terrible. You can very clearly tell that it is a very...
Read moreIt's this location that I've had consistently bad experiences with. The employees are nice, but it is always understaffed when I come here. As someone who works in food service I feel terrible for these kids and couldn't bother asking them to remake my drink during a rush. I've ordered their tea based drinks and I've felt nauseous after, and my friends included too. Something tastes off everytime They recently came out with their strawberry shortcake collection, and i had the strawberry fields matcha cream top from another location and it was delicious! I ordered the same drink from here the same way and and I was charged for the matcha top even tho it comes with it. And the worst part was that it tasted horrible! like battery acid...
