The UD art galleries are historic buildings alive with discoveries, experiences, and inspiration because of the art it houses. Old College Hall is a building with the distinction of being on the National Historic Register. It was built in 1834 and is among the oldest buildings at the University of Delaware.

I shared this recently with my children, who didn't realize the history surrounding the area's University. Many works of art came from donors like Paul R. Jones who gifted a sizeable collection of African American Art. Mechanical Hall reopened after a special renovation in 2004 with that collection of art.

The building itself has been in existence since 1898 and is also among the National Register of Historic Places. I personally love the combination of history and art. Speaking of which, Mechanical Hall houses some of Virginia Woolf's writing and published work from the 1920s and 1930s.

You'll notice these and other special items in the glass enclosures throughout both galleries. Exhibits change a couple of times per year, so it's worth a trip to see what new and interesting things are presented. It's free, and like many colleges and universities across the country are just waiting for not only the students but the...
