Stayed here for only one night on our way over to the Oregon Coast. We stayed in the B Loop. The sites in the B Loop were spread further out than Loop A. There was very little privacy where we stayed, but thats fine since it was only 1 night. What was kind of shocking is that nothing was being watered in the area. The grassy areas around the entire area and around all the campsites were burnt. It was ugly and didn’t give me a very safe feeling, as in if a fire started, your trailer is probably going to catch on fire along with the campground. We did go for a walk around the campground, but didn’t get a chance to see too much of it.
We stayed on a Friday night, Aug. 24th and it was pretty quiet overall. On Saturday morning we were waking up and getting ready for the day. All of a sudden we heard loud parade/circus music in the campground. We were trying to figure out why in the heck it was coming from. We looked outside and we see is a huge group of kids on bikes and scooters cruising around with a camp leader. The music was blaring and kids were chattering and a few were yelling too. It was really un-nerving and disruptive to our morning. They did that in each loop of the park for about an hour. It was irritating. We did everything as quick as possible to get the heck out of there, which we did. We aren't sure if this is a regular thing, but not sure if...
Read moreI stayed twice. First time August 11th/12th and the 2nd time (in 2 different spaces) on August 14th to 16th. This is a very large park (on flat land) with lots of activities... hiking / walking bike riding (note, I mentioned this park is on flat land.) Disc golf really seems to be popular at this park. Even on weekdays. Plus, I saw a disc golf class being taught at the vistors center. Around the weekends. There are activities mainly for children, Presented by the park rangers. Even at 62 years old, I enjoyed "Shooting Stars" Presentation.
Why not 5 stars you ask?
New park ranger that was only on his 2nd day. Was left by himself In the registration booth. He was unable to answer my questions about Email notification of space cancellations. Like every state park I have stayed in so far this year. The bathrooms need to be better cleaned. IE: spider and cob webs in the bathroom / shower buildings removed. The paved bike path in some areas, are a bit rough and could use some repair. Could be a hazard for kids or bicyclist not paying attention. Not sure why. But some prime camping spots seem to go unused. Lastly. Quite of few "RV spots" were reserved by multipe "tent campers" with both multipe tents and vehicles. Over filling "their" reserved camp space. In my case. My "neighbors" were cutting thru / walking through my...
Read moreWonderful sprawling park with cozy cabins.
The cabins are cozy and clean and not to far from the bathroom and shower building. We stayed in cabin 1 which is mostly shaded and backs up to the camp paved trail. There are also a couple of trees out front that are just the right distance to hang a hammock and a good bunch of shrubs to block the view of the parking lot. The parking spots for the cabins are assigned and are a short distance away. They also have a wheelbarrow to haul your things over. They also sell firewood and ice so no need to haul it in.
Bathrooms and showers are older but really well kept and clean. Unfortunately there are no hooks or shelves in the bathroom to stash your stuff. Showers are private rooms with a changing area and free hot water.
Park has an awesome “natural” play area and lots of paved trails for little kids to bike around.
Historical buildings and sites are fun to explore. The visitors center displays are really well done in telling the story of the location. The rangers and volunteers really add to the experience. There is also a little garden where they grow plants that were present when the original settlement was there. They also sell little packets of seeds to bring home for your own garden.
Will definitely put this park on the list for future...
