If you are looking for a less crowded spot in Newport Beach, The Wedge is a good spot. It is located on the east end of the Balboa Peninsula. Street parking seems to be easier to find in this area since you are driving further out of the main area.
The beach itself is great as it feels secluded. There is tons of sand, but there are fewer beachgoers in the area. If you go all the way to the east, you can see Corona Del Mar State Beach Park, which is across the water. But otherwise, it is just a view of the beachfront plus the ocean and waves from here. These two waves, the one coming straight in and the one that has ricocheted off the jetty, will converge and double its size. On this day, the waves were not spectacular.
