This is an iconic spot because of the wedge a famous surf spot. When the waves are big it draws hundreds of people to watch the giant waves. It’s also the entrance to the Newport in Harbor. So it’s really a beautiful spot and very unique as you have harbor views and ocean views. There is plenty of bike parking if you come on a busy weekend you’ll have to park in the neighborhood somewhere and parking can be really tough. My favorite times are during the week in the morning and the evening when there’s barely anybody around it’s very tranquil I am sitting on the park benches watching the boats go by and the birds fly overhead brings a sort of comfort.
This is also a destination for a many bike riders on the peninsula because it’s the very end and is located in a charming neighborhood called Peninsula point that starts at G St. The entire Beach in this area is really quite beautiful and not as populated because it’s harder to get to and so far down on the peninsula not that many people know about it. There are no restrooms so that’s what makes it hard for people to spend a full day on the peninsula point beaches. I think my favorite beach spot in this area is at L St. before I lived here I came to this particular spot often parking isn’t too bad and it’s just really pretty nestled in between beautiful ocean front property and a gorgeous white sandy beach. Cheers and have fun...
Read moreThe slab of concrete that makes up a side walk, so to speak, appears to be remnants of a possible larger walk way that makes for a secure enough walk along the jetty; however mind your step, you might slip into jagged rocks that lead up and out to the water way of the jetty. The view of Corona Del Mar beach and the jetty is outstanding. Beautiful houses line the clifts, miles of beach that lead out to Laguna and lavish sailboats as well as party cruisers adorn this best kept secret in Southern California. All types of people flock to this state beach due to the the picturesque jagged clifts, green foliage of many types of fauna and flora, clean sandy beach, mild surf, a well kept grassy shaded park (including picnic tables) yummy snack shacks, clean restrooms, a clean parking lot, and my favorite a hidden cove. A quick climb through somewhat jagged sandstone hides a stairway to a hidden beach that faces the jetty, Balboa beach and boat dock. When the tide is low you can enjoy swimming and sunbathing. When the sun begins to set the tide rolls in and the sandy cove gets covered until morning. I personally, love this place; I have been coming here since I was a kid. A lot has changed since then, however, the experience is still peaceful and...
Read moreThis is a good view park indeed! The inlet views of the harbor here are excellent, with simple boats and yachts of all sizes passing by! There’s good views of Corona Del Mar Beach with the rock formations across the channel. Of course, here’s the best views and access to the jetty. At this point, the waters of The Wedge and open ocean will be seen. Riptides tend to be strong here, with stern reminders on signage to heed the warnings! There’s anglers fishing from the seawall at the inlet side here. While tempted to venture out along the jetty, it may be better to check the tide and surf reports, or speak to the lifeguard at the Wedge, before stepping out over the rocks. There’s been instances when waves suddenly wash over the jetty, taking people in it’s wake. Even when dry, caution should be observed watching our footing here, especially with an expensive phone in hand! I like this little park for it’s views, so long term parking, food and restrooms aren’t so important here. Residential street parking serves...
