I used to love coming here but I stopped because the last few times I went there they were selling “fresh” local swordfish during a time when the Swordfish are not around. Swordfish is seasonal. I questioned them but their convenient answer was that they had a “secret spot”. What really made me stop going was when I spoke to the local sword fishermen (Catalina Island) and they laughed and thought this fish place was a complete joke. My final confirmation of my feelings of receiving false facts was when I visited this fish market and wanted to buy fish for dinner. The seas were really rough the last two days. So much so the transportation boats to the island were canceled. With the rough seas they still said they “caught a swordfish yesterday” so it’s very fresh. Even if it was the season for catching swordfish the commercial fishermen would not have taken their boats out during rough seas. I feel it would be fine if they sold good quality frozen fish but to say it’s “fresh local” is not truthful and insulting. If they exaggerate the truth with this fish it makes me wonder what else could they “exaggerate” about. It’s been awhile since I last went there but I feel it is important to let you know. Hopefully they have corrected their lack of truthfulness and feel comfortable saying their off-season local swordfish is either fresh frozen or from a different area but, not local. And hopefully they have changed their price to reflect what they really are selling. Thank you for taking the time to read my experiences and reading my...
Read moreI found Pearsons Port in late 2021 but didn’t make my first visit until early 2022. I have been impressed with the quality of seafood that they carry and the location is quite unique.
The young men inside are always nice and extremely helpful, depending on what fish you buy they do offer to clean it up. I have bought the live spotted prawns, Snapper, salmon, tuna, scallops, and rock crab at this location. First good quality, sometimes the scallops are frozen but I am told they are flash frozen.
My only negative is the price seems to raise quite quite. Pretty expensive for fish. Price of Fish went up 4$ in two years, snapper is up 3$, and the lobster and shrimp have skyrocketed.
Other than that, this place is...
Read moreIn an unassuming shack on the water in Newport Beach lies this seafood oasis. My wife sent me here to get some spotted prawns and it was a great experience. You park in this dock area and walk down this plank to a floating store/dock/boat. It was cool. The inside was fairly small, but you know it had all sorts of fresh seafood. I was here for the shrimp and grabbed a net and the person helped me pick out some larger prawns for me to bring home. They were fresh and jumping all over the place. It's a little pricey, but that's expected for this fresh of seafood. Recommend...
