A Spectacular Coastal Retreat: Castaways Park
Lower Castaways park is a popular small canoe, kayak and paddle board launch site. There is bay beach access that continues beyond the park around the back of the bay to a point. Upper Castaways park is accessed by a different entrance on top of the bluff. It has nature trails and great views of the bay. Both interesting places to visit with nice bay and skyline views of Newport Beach.
Nestled along the stunning coastline of Newport Beach, California, Castaways Park is a true haven for nature enthusiasts, offering a blend of breathtaking natural beauty and fascinating history. This picturesque park provides a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
Geographically, Castaways Park benefits from its prime location overlooking the Upper Newport Bay Nature Preserve and Back Bay. Its elevated position grants visitors panoramic views of the sparkling waters, lush wetlands, and rolling hills, creating a serene and idyllic atmosphere.

Read moreCastaways Park has a highpoint overlooking the entrance of Upper Newport Bay and the Balboa Peninsula. I had to say wow after walking up the trail from the Castaways Park parking lot to the edge! The front trail interconnects around to the Scenic Overlook at Polaris Drive for continuous views! Random alternate trails wind thru the natural thicket of the area. Combined with the ambience of the views and tranquility of the location, I think this is one of the coolest places to be by the coast! Only until I look down to see the heavy traffic along the Pacific Coast Highway Bridge and North Bayside Drive, do I feel a sense of detachment from the busy world below! The southwestern side of the park features the Marine War Memorial, with the bronze soldier statue, plaques and the american flag, high above the passing boats of the bay! Parking’s available at the Castaways Park parking lot, off Castaway Lane, a southeast bound continuation of East 16th Street, just past Dover Drive. Public restrooms are available at Bob Henry Park, across Castaway Lane, before...
Read moredisclaimer my review of this park only accounts for a quick pokestop run after the sun had set.
Wildlife: There were rabbits roaming about at night. The sound of crickets and other creepy crawlers was apparent and added a comfortable vibe to the place.
Scenery: Even at night, the park has some pretty great view points. Unfortunately I cannot leave images as of right now, but I shall update this review as soon as I visit again.
Safety: The park did seem a bit unsettling at first, the fact I visited at night doesn't help it one bit, but after walking around a little bit that feeling wore off. Some people were visiting around the same time, but in the end it felt safe.
Services: I did not make it a goal to find any amenities like a bathroom or anything of the sorts. Though I will update the matter next time I visit.
Pokestops: 8 of them that are relatively close to each other.
Castaways Park looks to be more of a wildlife reserve in which you can take a paved path that leads you to a great vista. I highly...
