Please read this addendum. I originally gave a bad review because of the way I was treated by a staff member after my experience at the theater and its non accessible bathrooms. I was contacted today by another staff person, Nancy Peirce, their Audience Services Director, who was absolutely wonderful to deal with. We talked openly about the lack of handicapped accessible bathrooms and I felt that I was listened to and respected. I am glad that we were able to have this discussion and I am glad that I was heard. So, thank you to Nancy for being so kind and helpful. I will say that other than the restroom issue, the venue is a small and intimate place and the acoustics are awesome! Thank you again, Nancy.
The venue is not wheelchair accessible. I purchased a wheelchair ticket and was not told that their bathrooms are NOT wheelchair accessible. I understand that the building is 100 plus years old and doesn't have to meet ADA requirements. But they could have mentioned this when I bought the tickets or on their website. I wouldn't have attended the concert if I knew that I couldn't use bathroom. When I called and spoke to the "manager " she was defensive and rude stating that it was my responsibility to check if their bathrooms were wheelchair accessible. When I asked to speak to someone else, she stated that she was the only person that I could speak to. The bathrooms were not only not wheelchair accessible but they were so small that anyone plus size would have problems using them. The woman I spoke to seemed irate that I was calling her at all. She was not very professional and was defensive from the start of the conversation. I will NOT go back to the theater. If you are wheelchair bound, just know that the bathrooms are completely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI saw Tommy Emmanuel (World's Greatest Guitar Player) tonight in Newton at the Newton Theatre. What a GREAT, small, and old-school theatre in what is Sussex County's Capital. The Place is great! Very Small and quaint, so EVERY seat is close to the stage. I've seen numerous shows here within the last few years and the place keeps getting better and better. The only thing I disliked is I was going to video my favorite song and the "guards" or security guys repeatedly were telling people to turn off their phones. So how are we supposed to get great Youtube additions? SOmebody should have video-taped this show tonight, as it was a CLASSIC! The place attracts very good acts, musicians and alike. I saw The Musical Box (Genesis tribute Band) here and was blown away by the sound system. Also saw Steve Hackett (Genesis) play here and the show was fabulous. I Highly Recommend The Newton Theatre!! Easy, fast and reliable ticketing on-line too. Don't go to the Box Office during the week to save money on your tix, 'cause they're never open! Well, that's it- head to the Newton Theatre and enjoy your...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe were excited to be visiting the Newton Theatre for the first time tonight, and to see a John Denver Christmas Tribute The venue was at near-capacity of 600+, and while the stage was sparsely decorated with two undersized trees, the seating uncomfortably tight with everyone bringing winter jackets because of the snowfall, and some obvious and unfortunate water damage to the ceilings and walls of this aging showplace, we remained optimistic for the show.
What a disappointment! Sure, the guy looks a bit like Denver did back in the 1970s and, yes, the musicianship was there with solid guitar licks and masterful accompaniment, but he didn't sound like Denver at all when he sang. The entertainment was more impersonator or parody with phrases ('far out, etc.') and over-emphasized stage moves, hair tosses, and non-stop grinning than a true 'vocal' tribute. It felt more like something you'd see for free at a local church hall than a $90/couple event.
The staff, acoustics, and views of the stage at the venue were it's saving grace. The tight seating and poor performance were...
