I just spoke on the phone with a representative from the North Charleston Goodwill pickup. Having recently moved from Alaska, and having never been exposed to prejudice or racism, I was surprised and saddened by what I was told to expect. I am a Korean African American born of two parents who were both in the military, and my husband has a similar mixed heritage. When I told the guy how everyone in South Carolina had been so nice to us, (more than the Alaskan natives), he warned me to expect a racist divide between my children and family, and other "white" members of the community. Apparently the "clan culture", of races and families sticking together and not letting in outsiders is alive and well in Charleston. Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?!?! I'm APPALLED!!! Didn't we leave racism in the 50's?!?! I'm so sad to hear that my neighbors and members of my community who have been SO warm and welcoming to my multi-racial family are victims of racism and disgusting bigotry!!! How do those people live with themselves saying that one race, or type, or socioeconomic class is better than another? When will we start seeing people's souls, and not their skin, or heritage, or sexual orientation? I really don't understand this need for judgement and classification. Tell me...
Read moreBob Smith, the CEO, is an overpaid cretin. $300 K per year for this conman? He is moving his idiot son up the chain of command so he can turn this fake charity into a family run operation.
He lied to the Post and Courier several years ago when he claimed that his organization took no money from any governmental entity. That was a bald-faced lie. Google "Did Palmetto Goodwill CEO Lie to the Charleston Post and Courier." This search term will take you to an article that proves my assertion. Turns out that Palmetto Goodwill got over $10 million from the federal government the same year that he lied to the P&C.
He has also paid his disabled employees as little as $1.80 per hour by taking advantage of a glitch in the Wage and Hour Act. I guess that's not terrible since NBC did a report by Brian Williams that uncovered Goodwills which were paying disabled folks as little as 22 cents per hour.
There are far more worthwhile organizations to give your donations to. Avoid this scam like the...
Read moreAll adult clothing were $4.89 but then with military discount, it went down to $4.40. Children’s clothing were $2.49- everything else priced super affordable. Nice clean facility, with lots of options. The only complaint I have is that the team lead , Raven, is absolutely despicable. Both my husband and myself almost said something to her because she was so rude to our cashier Denise when she had a question! Raven came up to the register annoyed that Denise had to ask her a question, then proceeded to talk down to her as if she was an idiot and continued with rolling her eyes and shaking her head as she reluctantly helped her with her question. Denise kept apologizing that she bothered her, to which Raven did not respond to. As a person in a “lead” position, you should have a willingness to help people and respect those...
