The store is well lit, clean in appearance and clean floors. A large selection in the produce dept. that is kept rotated and fresh.
Many different kinds of fresh noodles.
Their seafood department is very good, the fresh fish (with an occasional exception) is in fact, fresh looking (bright eyes, bright red gills) with no indications of distressed product in the cases. They must have a good sanitation program because I have never once run into the bad odors like you get in th seafood departments of some stores.
Their fresh meat dept is excellent, they are on the Certified Angus Beef program, which is top notch, the best in choice graded beef. Their pork is all natural, and pale pink in color as it should be.
The grocery aisles are well stocked with everything you can want in Asian products.
The cashiers are very pleasant at the front end and they have enough checkers working to get shoppers thru quickly, so it is also convenient.
The parking lot and outside of the store is neat and well kept.
The one big drawback is trying to get your cart through the store, narrow aisles and the layout of some of the refrigerated cases means a constant "traffic jam" of shoppers at choke points. Very old school thinking on the layout, there are ways of making it easier to shop and actually increase sales volume by at least 2 to 5% without too much effort.
This store is not real close to home, but I do shop it every couple of weeks or so, the pricing is a little higher in the fresh departments, but the quality and freshness of products are truly worth it. I cook more and more Asian dishes and I am constantly learning, the shoppers there are friendly and seem to be glad answering my questions about certain products and Korean foods that I'm...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBest Korean supermarket I've been to. Big, clean, good value for money and delicious Korean claypot soups and mandoo!!!! I am ecstatic that this this Joong Boo Market opened and provided some competition in the Korean market scene. As consumers, competition adds value for us, like better price and service!!!
First the groceries. Comparable to super H-Mart but my feeling is that stuff are cheaper here (disclosure: unscientific subjective gut feeling :-p)
FRESH SALMON! As Joong Boo Market is know for their sashimi platters, their salmons are very very fresh! I will be coming here to get my fish in the future! They know their supplier and sashimi is dependent on good quality!
Now the foodcourt. First of all, foodcourts are usually more than two stalls... there are only two stalls here :( Fortunately, the two stalls are SUPERB! We ordered a seafood tofp soup & a ox tail soup. Both broths are super rich, full of flavors and leaving me & my wife salivating! We both agree that we won't be going to any tofu houses as the quality here is so good and I don't have to pay gratuity. Call me cheap, I don't care! There are only three side dishes with the soup and none are cabbage kimchi, but they are unique and tastes good.
The dumplings here are $6 and huge. Unfortuantely I don't have the stomach for it, but I have my eyes on them! They will be devoured the next time we are there!!!
This will be my usual Korean...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI used to love Joong Boo Market. Now, I'm disappointed in the way they are handling things. They stopped having kimbop on the delivery menu. When I called the customer service regarding that issue, the customer service lady was rude & hung up on me. (She said that the kimbop was sold out & that's why it wasn't on the delivery menu anymore. But, it wasn't on the delivery menu for at least 3 whole weeks & they make kimbop every day. When she didn't understand what I was trying to say, she became combative & hung up on me. Totally unacceptable. Horrible customer service.) She shouldn't work as a customer service personnel if she isn't willing to listen to customer's feedback and/or complaints. Then, I called again to ask about why the kimbop wasn't on the delivery menu anymore even though the restaurant said that they had it for delivery when I called the restaurant last week & talked to the restaurant directly. The supposed customer service manager told me that they stopped serving kimbop for delivery. Joong Boo Market needs to get its story straight. 3 contradictory stories from them (1 story from the restaurant, another one from the customer service lady, & a final one from the supposed customer service manager). Very disappointed in them. Time to take my business elsewhere until they...
