I had my son’s 6th birthday party at the Northbrook Painted Penguin location, and it was phenomenal from start to finish. I’ve never had to do less for a party!
Robin made planning so easy. She’s a delight to work with, and there are plenty of day, time, and party options to suit your needs. The staff was incredibly kind and patient with my repeated calls to adjust our guest count. Holiday-season birthdays can be tricky, with people traveling and illnesses going around, so I really appreciated their flexibility.
The party lasted an hour and a half, and the amazing ladies running it had everything timed like clockwork. Sara and Victoria expertly handled the party room, while Sadie managed the ‘front of house.’ They expertly guided all the kids through the party activities. No one felt rushed, yet we managed to do everything: painting, coloring, creating a group art piece for the birthday boy, enjoying snacks and cake, and singing.
We had 28 kids attend, and by some miracle, the party room remained calm and peaceful. The kids were completely engaged in their projects, which allowed me to have relaxed conversations with the adults. The children got to choose what they wanted to paint from a huge selection of items—snakes, frogs, unicorns, cupcakes, superheroes, street signs—the options seemed endless!
The Painted Penguin hosts also took care of serving all the food (using gloves) and made it a fun experience for the kids. The party room itself was vibrant and festive, with walls full of fun art and countless birthday banners. Without bringing a single decoration, the room was already brimming with birthday cheer! I researched several venues in the area, and the Painted Penguin offered an extremely reasonable price. I’m still in awe of the level of service we received from this talented group of women. Everything was completely seamless, far exceeding my expectations.
I truly cannot say enough good things about this place. By the end of the party, I was inquiring about adult parties (which they do!), and my son is already saying, “Next year for my birthday at Painted Penguin…!” It was a beautiful afternoon, and this place is...
Read moreI love the idea of this and it’s such a kid friendly way to paint. However a lot of the ceramic pieces are damaged to the point where you had to really pick through them to find one that wasn’t in bad shape. the brushes were pretty worse for ware as well which I understand a lot of kids wouldn’t care about but my kid definitely does and when you want a crisp line but can’t get one because you have a frayed paint brush it’s pretty frustrating. And lastly the finishing touches that the employees give in theory are so cool to give the piece some shine or glitter however with every one or our pieces it ended up smearing the paint even after we had thoroughly dried them which was really disappointing after you spend nearly two hours painting your pieces to your liking only to have someone else smear them up. If we went again we’d forgo that part entirely and just keep it as it is bc it doesn’t even make it very shiny in the end. Overall we did really enjoy ourselves and having an outlet for art is always nice there were just several things that were quite...
Read moreThe BEST. We had my son’s birthday party here last weekend, and it was not only so much fun for all the kids, but SO well-run! Robin is so organized that I actually got to sit back and enjoy the party. She and her staff handled all the details, even beyond painting, including playing games, getting pizza delivered and cutting the cake. She also made sure to have a Pokémon piece available to paint, my son’s current favorite…and repaired my toddler’s Buzz Lightyear piece after he dropped it ;) We also love coming here for a fun activity on days...
