This is one of several beaches in the area I enjoyed coming to while growing up in the area, and still like coming to while visiting during the off-season. It is not as good as Burying Hill Beach (5 stars) or Southport Beach (4 stars), but it is about as good as Compo Beach (3 stars). So why does Calf Pasture get only 1 star?
See my review of the Captain William Clark Fishing Pier, located within Calf Pasture Beach, for the answer. In brief: The entire beach was ruined by the placement of the huge hideous sculpture at the entrance of the CWC pier. I express outrage at the besmirching of a picturesque and at least somewhat inspirational shoreline. I also express disgust that the location of the piece was determined solely by the 'sculptor' himself, in apparent duplicity with the Recreations and Parks Director at the time. I quote an article from the Norwalk Hour that presents a sample of public opinion that is most contemptuous and disparaging of the thing.
I say that I would sue if I lived in Norwalk, which I would, and that if the people of the city could and would get the piece removed, I would host a "wild...
Read moreComing here for years and a beautiful beach indeed. Unfortunately the RESIDENTS SEGREGATION has become a bit too much. Parking fees keep rising for NON RESIDENTS while the upkeep of parks decline. Went on Tuesday afternoon and in the 3 minutes I crossed the street to place our beach stuff a traffic agent took opportunity to write a $150 summons for NON RESIDENT PARKING. When I asked him about it he says nothing he can do. That I should feel fortunate the vehicle wasn’t towed? WOW! Really? EMPTY PARKING LOT and I get to pay $150 UNFORTUNATELY I WILL NEVER BE BACK. I ADVISE NON RESIDENTS TO STAY AWAY. Also know they now have a Motorcycle Officer with Binoculars stopping vehicles for excessive speed on the main strip before coming into Beach parking. Miniature Golf.. how? pay $30 to park so I can play? I’m so disgusted seeing this decline over last 20 years. SHAME ON YOU...
Read moreFYI After Labor Day, the gate was open and cars proceeding through for a little social distancing break while on furlough during this pandemic. Come back to see an exorbitant “$150.00!” parking violation on my car (which is the actual total price for a SEASON parking pass here for non-residents!) Tried to appeal it especially since the gates were open with no attendant there after Labor Day, all to no avail. (Also online their parking violations chart lists that a “no valid parking permit” fine is $60.) Fair warning would have been nice and surprisingly the appeal didn’t work. They just want $150 from unwitting non-residents... feeling totally robbed by the “shady” court system here merely for parking in a beach lot one afternoon! Despicable! Maybe you should send me a season parking pass for 2021 since I already paid you! Shame on Calf Pasture Beach/Parking...
