If this place is the best spot for poke bowls, I’m guessing it’s for local standards and that can vary from person to person. The poke bowl I purchased was with spicy ahi and when I tried it, I didn’t really catch a spicy kick from it. The color of the fish and the sauce was also greying which gave me an indication that it was getting old. Poke bowls served at foodland, Times supermarket, or even if you order sashimi from restaurants, the fish will always have their full color, showing that it’s fresh. Greying meats should be thrown out. Anyways, Not even after 30 min of eating a quarter of the bowl, my digestive system started churning hard as if it was digesting something toxic; felt like I had food poisoning. If they see this, I hope they fix this before someone files a lawsuit for serving food that can potentially harm and...
Read moreI don't know why this place has such good reviews. We were in the North Shore area one Sunday, so we stopped by just after 1 to pick up some poke. There is a half pound minimum if you're just getting the poke so we got 1/2 lb of the shoyu, and 1/2 lb of the spicy. The shoyu was a mix of old and new pieces of tuna because half of the pieces were discolored and you could tell have been marinated longer. The spicy poke wasn't even chunks of fish. It was all the leftover end pieces so it was basically tiny morsels of fish. And it wasn't exactly cheap, at $18.99 a pound - especially for fish that isn't fresh.
Do yourself a favor and go to Foodland for poke instead. It's half the price and the poke is actually...
Read moreThis is Action Bronson's number 1 spot in Oahu. Or at least this is the spot in an old YT video. I have gone to this spot twice, once 6 years ago and a second time with my wife. And she loved the limu (traditional) poke. And I still find it great. The quantity you get has slightly changed and it makes sense but it is just prepared really well. The spot still looks as sketchy as I remember it, but the poke is pretty awesome for Oahu. The seasoning was perfectly balanced, not excessively salty, good portion of rice and just really fresh fish. Great spot in the northern parts...
