Laniakea Beach, located on the North Shore of Oahu, is a hidden gem that holds a special place in my heart. It is undoubtedly one of the most enchanting spots on the island, offering a peaceful retreat where you can witness breathtaking sunsets and encounter majestic sea turtles in their natural habitat.

One of the main reasons why Laniakea Beach holds such allure is its stunning sunsets. As the sun descends towards the horizon, the sky transforms into a kaleidoscope of vibrant hues, casting a warm golden glow over the ocean and the sandy shores. The tranquil ambiance combined with the mesmerizing colors creates a truly magical experience. Whether you're strolling along the beach, sitting on the sand, or simply gazing out at the horizon, the sunsets at Laniakea Beach will leave you awestruck and rejuvenated.

But Laniakea Beach is not only famous for its sunsets; it is also known as a sanctuary for Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles, also known as Honu. These gentle creatures can often be spotted basking on the beach or swimming gracefully in the shallow waters. It is an incredible privilege to witness these magnificent animals up close in their natural habitat. The sight of a sea turtle gliding through the water or peacefully resting on the sand is a truly humbling experience and a reminder of the beauty and diversity of marine life.

It is important to note that while the turtles are a remarkable sight to behold, it is crucial to respect their space and not disturb them. Signs are posted along the beach to educate visitors about the importance of maintaining a safe distance and not interfering with the turtles' natural behavior. By following these guidelines, we can help ensure the well-being and preservation of these incredible creatures for future generations to enjoy.

Aside from the sunsets and turtle viewing, Laniakea Beach offers a serene and picturesque setting for relaxation and recreation. The beach is relatively uncrowded, allowing for a peaceful and immersive experience. The soft, golden sand invites you to lay out a beach blanket, read a book, or simply soak up the sun's warmth. The gentle waves provide a soothing soundtrack as you unwind and bask in the beauty of nature surrounding you.

Facilities at Laniakea Beach are limited, with no official parking lot or restrooms available. However, there is ample street parking along Kamehameha Highway, and portable restrooms can be found nearby. It is advisable to come prepared with any necessary supplies such as sunscreen, water, and snacks to fully enjoy your time at the beach.

Visiting Laniakea Beach on the North Shore of Oahu is a must for nature enthusiasts, sunset lovers, and anyone seeking a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Its idyllic setting, stunning sunsets, and the opportunity to witness sea turtles in their natural habitat make it a truly unforgettable destination. Embrace the tranquility, marvel at the beauty, and let the magic of Laniakea Beach captivate your senses.

Note: It is important to respect the beach and its inhabitants by following all guidelines and regulations, including maintaining a safe distance from the turtles and leaving no trace behind. Let's ensure the preservation of this remarkable ecosystem for...

First of all this beach is amazing! The clear blue waters and the beautiful turtles 🐢 , this place is a must 💯 The reason why I rated 1 star, is because I want everyone to be aware of the local thieves targeting the tourists.

It was a Sunday afternoon on the 10th of April 2022, I took my partner there as a birthday treat. I hid her hand bag under our beach mat with extra bags on top of it and no one would have known. I was swimming with my partner and I quickly ran to get her phone out of her bag to take photos of the turtles. I put the phone back in her bag and hid it again back under the mat, I returned back into the water. After swimming for another 20mins with my partner, we decided to pack up and head back to Waikiki for dinner. At that moment we realised her bag was stolen from under our mat, and I believe I was being watched that whole time. It had both our phones, wallets, rental car keys, IDs, smart watch and cash. Luckily a very kind family was willing to help us call the police, and also send text messages to our phones warning them about the police, tried calling our phones did not answer. And strangely an anonymous person sends a text message to the phone we borrowed off the family, saying “our bag has been found on the road and has been turned in to Fire Station 11 Sunset Beach” which is 4.4 miles north from Laniakea Beach. The family was kind enough to take us there and back. We received my partner’s bag from the firemen and discovered only our cash was taken. Everything else was there, and both our phone screens were smashed for some reason. Now I don’t know if that anonymous person was the actual thief maybe wanted to make quick cash, but we were just grateful to have everything else back.

It was a shocking experience. I wouldn’t recommend boycotting this beautiful place, but I’d say just be smart and be aware of your valuables. Don’t try hide them like I did, because they probably watching your every move. Just be smart and have someone from your crowd/family, sit next to your bags and things on the beach. It’s probably hard for couples that want to swim together but again keep an eye on your valuables!

Enjoy the turtles 🐢 and the beach...

We knew from a previous visit that there are turtles that come up on the beach here every day! They normally come around noon-ish and then stay until after sunset. There is an organization there that monitors the turtles that come up. They are able to identify them and keep everyone a safe distance. The beach is large with plenty of space to spread out and perfect to watch the sunset. There are also quite a few people surfing here as well. If you want a sure fire way to see turtles, this is your spot!

We found this during my research of beaches to stop at on a drive around the island as we wanted to visit the north shore. We also saw that this is a great place to spot turtles as well. There is a lot of parking on the side of the street leading up to the beach, and there is also a decent size gravel lot across the street. We arrived about 30 minutes before sunset. We found a spot to just sit on the beach and watch the surfers and the sunset. We saw a sign that had an arrow for turtles and we saw a group of people all the way at the end of the beach where the rocks are. There were 3 turtles there! There is an organization there that creates a rope barrier and makes sure people keep their distance while also educating people about the turtles. Turns out they keep records of 35 different turtles that like to come up and nap on this beach, and that there’s usually at least one turtle there every day. We learned a lot about the green turtles and the organization. We had never seen a turtle like that in person before so it was super cool. We sat and watched the sunset with the turtles and it was perfect. There are some rocks over where the turtles are, but if you keep walking down, it turns into soft sand. The organization that keeps an eye on the turtles warned us that right after the sun goes down, cars get broken into so we should all probably head back. Please be sure to take your bags with you on your person, don’t leave anything that looks valuable in plain sight, and lock your doors. So please be alert and aware of your surroundings. Whenever we return, we will definitely be coming back here for...

TL;DR: sea turtles 11am-3pm. Good for stopping by, not staying. Small beach. WATCH YOUR STEP. Great place to stop by and view sea turtles grazing on sea lettuce in the shallows or sunning themselves on the beach. Best to view between 11am and 3pm. The sea turtles are protected by law. You have to be at least 10 feet away and no, you cannot touch them. So keep your grubby human hands to yourself. You see with your eyes, not your hands. There is also a fine for touching a sea turtle. Yup, someone went and ruined it for us all. So don't make it worse and make turtle viewing a banned thing too. There is not much of a beach here at all. It's a small sandy area that immediately turns into smooth slippery rock filled with holes and toe jamming crevices. This is where the sea lettuce grows and where the turts hang. Always be aware of your feet. The waves plus poor sea turtle-distracted-you can be caught by surprise while playing "turtle paparazzi" and you'll end up getting wet or hurt if you slip! I'll say it again: always be aware if your feet, especially while you creep towards a turtle while snapping a photo. Parking: across the street from the beach. A two lane road splits the beach and the parking lot -- be mindful of peak hours, there can and WILL be a line of cars waiting along the road and backing up traffic. Bring some entertainment for the little ones because it can be a boring wait for that parking spot.

This beach is super popular but well worth a visit! We went on a Sunday afternoon. From Waikiki, we rented a car and I believe it took us about an hour to drive. Parking was packed but there were spaces so we didn't have to wait. The views from this beach are stunning! There was a small crowd but there was plenty of space to explore and swim. When we were there, there was a turtle on the beach and someone had roped off an area to protect what I assume was a nesting area. As an added bonus, just steps into the ocean was another large turtle nibbling on the rocks, which seemed unbothered by the activity and especially people around. The one word to the wise I'll add that I learned the hard way was that there are no bathrooms or changing facilities anywhere around this beach. We improvised and made it work but I should of verified this ahead of time so we could have avoided the quick change maneuvers, lol. I do have several videos of our time at this beach, one in particular that shows my time spent swimming with the turtle in the ocean, that I will be uploading in the coming weeks on our YouTube channel.
