Makapuʻu Lookout is absolutely stunning and a must-stop if you’re exploring the southeastern coast of Oʻahu. The views from the lookout are incredible—panoramic vistas of the deep blue Pacific Ocean, rugged cliffs, and on clear days, even nearby islands like Molokai and Lanai can be seen in the distance.

The water below is a mesmerizing mix of blues, and the contrast with the volcanic cliffs makes it a perfect spot for breathtaking photos. It’s a favorite for both sunrise views and midday ocean gazing. During the winter months, this is also a great place to try and spot humpback whales offshore.

There’s parking right at the lookout, and it’s an easy walk to the edge for spectacular views, so it’s accessible for all ages and fitness levels. It’s also located near the trailhead for the Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail if you’re up for a scenic hike.

Whether you’re just passing through or planning a stop, Makapuʻu Lookout offers one of the best coastal views on the island and is well...

Makapuʻu Lookout offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views along Oʻahu’s southeastern coast. Standing at the lookout, you’re treated to a sweeping vista of Rabbit Island, the vibrant blue ocean, and distant glimpses of Molokaʻi on a clear day. The rugged cliffs enhance the feeling of being at the edge of the world, making this an ideal spot for photography, sightseeing, and reflection.

Nearby, the Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail offers a paved, moderate hike with even more spectacular coastal views. In winter months, this area transforms into a prime whale-watching destination, with humpback whales often seen breaching in the distance. Though the lookout lacks shade or seating, its easy accessibility and stunning vistas make it a must-stop along the Kalanianaʻole Highway. Whether you're gazing at the deep blue ocean or watching the waves crash against the cliffs, Makapuʻu Lookout is a highlight for...

From the moment you park you vehicle @ the lot to the top of the hill, it will take you anywhere from 40 min to an hour depending on your physical ability.

The path is paved for about 80% of the trek and then breaks into rough surface near the top but needs some work done to it since the paved sections have cracks at numerous places due to the rain I believe.

Lovely ocean views and cool breeze the entire time we were climbing but do bring plenty of water as it does get hot in the afternoon as well as u need to replenish the water you losses while sweating climbing to the top.

You get wonderful 360 degree view of the mountains and the ocean which surround the light house, even though you can get to the light house but you get to see it from the top and its worth the hike in the end get that magnificent view.

Bring lots of water and...
