This is a great "hike"! I put hike in quotation marks because the trail is 1p00% asphalt paved with concrete borders ther entire way. The trail is smooth and elevated the entire way. Honestly it's phenomenal that they constructed it the entire way, and certainly helps with the tens of thousands of visitors they must get each year from eroding the path.

There are multiple stopping points along the way. Bring water! If you have a dog, the asphalt is going to be hot hot hot in the summer. Please think of your dogs before bringing them.

The view is incredible at the top. It is the windward side of the island, so expect some [comforting] wind as you approach the top. There is a smaller sister trail leading to the water (visit during low tide) with a miniscule beach.

PSA do not wear a g-string thong, please wear shoes that have foot support. Those mini sandels with zero support will be pai ful to walk...

Basic infoormation: Very beautiful! You can see Moloka'i from here on a clear day and sometimes Maui! The trail is paved so you can bring a wheelchair, just be aware that some parts are steep and there are few rest areas with flat ground. Groups: It is approximately 1.3 miles from parking to the end and the lighthouse itself is not accessible. There is a trail to the lighthouse that is closed at this time (18 January 2020) and the path to it is not paved. I have seen cyclists using the trail and the trail is very wide so making the trek with a group is possible. Drone pilots: To my knowledge it is legal to fly here just be aware of crowds of people and local air traffic as heli tours are popular here. There are areas off the main trail that have flat ground to launch/land your aircraft that is away...

I recommend the very long hike to see the sunrise 🌅.. although the location is closed many people park on the road and take the very long walk for the amazing view. We only went halfway but that was good enough for me (long steep hike). If you go all the way you will see not only the sunrise but the other side of the mountain. We continued driving on the road to enjoy the other side. It takes a good 20+ min to just get highway up the mountain so leave yourself enough time before sunrise. I recommend bringing water but there was no bathroom that I saw. By the time the sun is up the site is open. I don't know about...

This is a GREAT hike! It’s fully paved all the way up the steady incline. 1.2 miles up; 1.2 miles back= 2.4 miles round trip. You can definitely take a stroller. Plenty of stops along the way. Not a lot of shade cover so keep in mind when hot. No bathrooms. No water. At top there’s a few sections of stairs; Amazing views!! Parking is free. Not a ton of parking; I’d say about 50 spots including along the road. We didn’t have a stroller and had to carry our 2 1/2 year old a lot of the way but our 4 year old did almost the entire hike. Cellphone service is horrible in that area for Verizon!

The path is paved, but it is pretty steep. There are lots of little side areas with seating to take breaks and signs talking about the history of the area. Bring water, it gets pretty hot. The parking does fill up quickly, so I usually try to go earlier in the day. There’s lots of warning signs not to go off the main trail down the rocky cliffs, but it seems people do it anyway. Fun Bonus - There is also a side trail that is mostly gravel at the beginning of the lighthouse trail, which will bring you down toward the shore and will give you a better view of Pele’s Chair.
