We’ve been spending time on the west side of Oʻahu and decided to take a day trip up to Waimea Bay Beach Park, and I’m so glad we did! I’ve seen photos and videos of this place for years, but being there in person is a completely different experience. During our visit in October 2025, the waves were absolutely massive — crashing hard and creating that dramatic North Shore energy that everyone talks about.

It’s definitely not the kind of beach for inexperienced swimmers when the surf is up, but for me, I loved it. The sound of the waves, the power of the ocean, and the natural beauty of the bay are just mesmerizing. The lifeguards were super attentive, constantly making announcements over the speakers reminding everyone to stay safe and be mindful of the conditions. I really appreciated how present and alert they were — it made me feel like safety was a top priority.

Normally, there’s a big rock (known as “Da Big Rock”) where people love to jump into the ocean, but because the waves were so strong this time, no one was jumping. Honestly, it was still incredible to watch the ocean’s power from the shore — you can really feel the energy of the place.

The beach itself is gorgeous. The sand is soft and clean, and it’s perfect for laying out, having a picnic, or just watching the waves roll in. There are picnic tables scattered around the park, plenty of shade from the trees if you need a break from the sun, and the restrooms are well maintained — something I always appreciate at a busy beach.

Tip: Come early! Parking is very limited, and the lot fills up quickly, especially on weekends or when the surf is big. If you arrive mid-morning or later, you might have to circle around or park farther away.

Overall, Waimea Bay Beach Park is one of those must-visit spots on Oʻahu — whether you come for the swimming and cliff jumping in the calm summer months or just to watch the massive waves in winter, it never disappoints. Every time I visit, I’m reminded how powerful and beautiful the Hawaiian coastline truly is....

Nestled on the beautiful North Shore of Oahu, Waimea Bay Beach Park is a true gem that offers the perfect blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. From the moment you arrive, the stunning turquoise waters and golden sands leave you in awe. Whether you're a local or a visitor, this beach park has something for everyone.

Also my kids found a peacock 🦚 a real one. Such a unique experience.

One of the standout features of Waimea Bay is its spacious picnic area. Shaded by lush trees, the picnic spots provide a serene environment to enjoy a meal with family and friends. The well-maintained picnic tables are strategically placed, allowing you to soak in the breathtaking views while enjoying a delicious lunch. There are also BBQ grills available, perfect for those who want to make a day of it with a cookout by the beach.

The beach itself is ideal for swimming and sunbathing, with calm waters during the summer months that invite you to take a refreshing dip. In winter, the waves can get quite large, making Waimea Bay a prime spot for surfers and spectators alike. Watching the surfers ride the waves is an exhilarating experience and adds to the vibrant atmosphere of the beach.

In addition to the picturesque beach and picnic areas, the park features restrooms and outdoor showers, which are essential for washing off the sand after a day in the sun. The surrounding landscape is beautifully maintained, with walking paths that lead you to scenic viewpoints, ideal for capturing those Instagram-worthy photos.

Overall, Waimea Bay Beach Park is a fantastic destination for anyone looking to enjoy a day of relaxation, fun, and outdoor activities. Whether you're picnicking under the trees, swimming in the crystal-clear waters, or simply soaking up the sun, this beach park is sure to leave you with lasting memories. Just remember to arrive early, as it can get busy, especially...

I recently visited Waimea Beach Park on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, and was blown away by its beauty and variety of activities. Here are some highlights:

Stunning Beach: The beach is gorgeous, with soft white sand and crystal-clear waters. It's perfect for swimming, snorkeling, and sunbathing. Cliff Jumping: The famous Waimea Bay Cliff Jump is a must-try for thrill-seekers. The highest point is 25 feet, but there are lower options too. Snorkeling and Swimming: The calm summer waters offer a chance to explore the underwater world, and the rocks surrounding the bay are home to a variety of marine life. Surfing and Big Waves: In the winter, Waimea Bay is a world-renowned surf spot with massive waves that attract professionals. Facilities and Parking: The park has restrooms, showers, picnic tables, and a parking lot, but be prepared for crowds and limited parking. Food and Drink: There are no cafes on the beach, but you can find local eateries and food trucks nearby.

Tips and Recommendations

Arrive early to secure parking and beat the crowds. Bring reef-safe sunscreen, towels, snorkeling gear, and a beach umbrella. Check the ocean conditions and safety alerts before swimming or surfing. Visit the nearby Waimea Valley for a waterfall hike, botanical gardens, and cultural center.

Overall Experience

Waimea Beach Park is a must-visit destination on the North Shore, offering something for everyone. Its natural beauty, exciting activities, and rich culture make it a unique and...
