The Graphic Conservation team recently took on two challenging conservation projects for me.
The first was a rare, 18th century Japanese woodblock print that I had purchased at auction. The print was unfortunately in terrible condition, suffering every imaginable ravage of time. Only its rarity and importance made it worthy of attempting a rescue.
The second was an 1889 first American edition of an important book on photography. The British first of this title—also published in 1889–can be readily found, and is merely expensive in collectible condition. The first American, however, is so rare that no copy has appeared at auction in over 100 years and this singular copy is the only example that I have ever come across in over 30 years of collecting.
I was naturally apprehensive about turning these projects over to just anybody. While I have had some experience working with bookbinders and restorers on much simpler projects in the past, the knowledge, experience, and talents required here were of a whole other magnitude. Anyone who has ever handled the incredibly fragile wood pulp paper that late 19th century books were printed on will understand.
The team at GC, however, quickly put my fears to rest with their friendly and thoroughly professional approach—setting reasonable and achievable expectations of what could and could not be accomplished in line with my goals. And I can only say the results that they produced far exceeded my expectations. Both projects are now in a state where they can be appreciated and studied for generations to come. THANK YOU!

Read moreMy father had 2 religious certificates from 1919 and 1949 that had been rolled in a cardboard tube forever. When we found the tube, the certificates were in terrible condition, the 1919 certificate was in multiple pieces. I found Graphic Conservations Co. From the first email exchange, they have been outstanding, sharing process details and information along the way. We received the 2 conserved documents this week and we can't believe how amazing they look! Graphic Conservation Co. did a phenomenal job, we're beyond thrilled with both documents. We opted to have them frame each and I'm very glad we did---they look outstanding. I would recommend Graphic Conservation without reservation; it was a pleasure doing business with them from...
