First off if you want visit Glacier Point, hurry up and do so. At the time of this review (August 2021) when Glacier Point closes for the season after the first big snow, it will be closed for two years due to refurbishment.
I am in Yosemite one or two times a month. While it's somewhat cliche, Glacier Point is still my favorite spot in the entire park. Tunnel View has an amazing overview but here at Glacier Point you have a view that is unparalleled in all of our National Parks that is accessible to everyone.
Since you can get the basics from maps and other reviews here's some of my tips that I have learned over the years...
If you come in the summer, plan to try and get here early. The drive from Yosemite Valley is between 30-60 minutes or more depending on traffic. While this is one of the best spots for sunset over Half Dome, it's also one of the best spots in the Sierra Nevada to see stars at night. Come out on a moonless night and see BILLIONS of stars. It's so amazing you will think you're in another world. Just make sure to bring clothes for the weather and try not to shine your flashlights at the photographers taking photos of the stars.
One last tip. At the very top of Glacier Point you will find "Overhanging Rock"...you will know it when you see it from all the old time and newer photos of people standing on it. There are signs not to go out onto that rock...there's a reason for those signs. This isn't Disneyland...it's actually really easy to fall from that rock and it's a 3000 foot drop. I promise there are much better places to get a good Instagram photo. People have DIED falling from that rock, it just isn't worth it.
Also remember that Glacier Point Road is closed after the first big snow storm of the season and doesn't usually reopen till around May. Just something to keep in mind depending on what time of the...
