I really love this spot for views of Half Dome at sunset and dusk. There’s a parking lot big enough that it never feels overrun like nearby spots do and because nearby spots are so busy and thought to be so much better, Washburn feels like a welcome relief from crowds. Definitely arrive early enough to scout your spot or couple of spots. Several waterfalls give the view from this vista an otherworld, almost fairy tale-like feel and it gives you a lot of composition options. Don’t discount Washburn just because the crowds do. One caveat, it’s not the best spot for photographing the Milky Way at night over Labor Day weekend, which doesn’t line up with Half Dome and from this spot doesn’t give you a very interesting foreground for Milky Way sky photos.
