Femi Macus Nails — Attraction in Oakland

I got my first set of acrylic nails ever here. They were so kind and made time for me on busy days during application and removal of my set. The issue came with removal. My nails were soaked in acetone then the acrylic was buffed off. This was a process of soak-buff-soak-buff that took roughly 30-45 minutes. I asked my nail tech to be gentle with the buffing but I think she thought I was being squeamish and didn’t make any changes. This process seemed aggressive on the nails but I’d never done acrylics before and chose to trust the technicians. At the end of the removal session I was horrified to see that the surface of my nails had been worked down so heavily that it was like looking at a 3-D topographic map. Nails shouldn’t look like that. About a week later and my nails yellowed at the tips, thin, brittle & breaking off. My nails still have these ridges etched into them - the combination of strong chemicals (acetone) and mechanical buffering clearly destroyed the nail. I’m now looking at careful, patient tending of at least a year to heal my nails. The staff were so nice but skill and care were lacking. Terrible experience. Totally overpriced for services. Get price upfront! I was scammed. I got a manicure & pedicure. They painted my toes. I did not get my nails painted. The total for this service was $62. I questioned the price when my nails weren't painted & David stated "nail polish is free", do you want your nails painted?" I have never went to a nail shop where the paint was free. I then was charged $1 to use my debit card & was then was pressured to tip for a service which I was ripped off. Also, My big toes were cut differently.

This place is also not taking Covid-19 seriously. The chairs are very tight together. There are no dividers between clients & the are reusing the foot scrub even though other places are using smaller disposable ones. I've been coming here for about a year now. They're professional and very accomodating too, I don't ever feel rushed even when they're super busy. I've been happy most times but disappointed in 2 instances. I find the service a bit inconsistent, some technicians are extra good and others are somehow careless. Last week my gel manicure wasn't the best: nails poorly prepared and polish applied on the skin around my nails and now lifting the polish on the actual nail + polish shipping faster than with a regular manicure. Rookie mistake if you ask me... It hasn't been a week yet and I am not washing dishes, cooking or anything. I left on vacation already and was hoping to keep it for a good 3 weeks like I usually do. If I was still around I would have gone back. I'll keep going for sure but will make sure I receive service from technicians I've been happy with...
