HIM Barbershop — Attraction in Oakland

I had a good experience here, not a great one. I was visiting Oakland, originally from Nigeria, so I really appreciated a lot of the decor and intention of the space, taking the time to highlight black excellence.

I came in for a beard trim and shape up, both were ‘good’ and the barber was attentive to his craft, however, I was razor cut a few times and, in my opinion, overcharged for the service. The experience left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, which made me decide not to have a second visit.

In truth, the 4* experience was likely a one off situation, but that’s all it takes for a customer to be a one-and-done, as opposed to a long term patron.

All said, it’s worth a visit - first confirm the final prices before sitting in the chair (my rookie mistake) and have clear instructions of what you want (which I thought I did).

Amazing service. I was looking for a barber since I moved here and these folks do a wonderful job. I get my beard and haircut done and I’m always satisfied and relaxed. The barbers are skilled and friendly. Their suggestions are also wonderful. I loved the atmosphere, music, and location. They also offer libations for the longer cuts. Giovanni and Peter are awesome! Parking is easy too. It’s a little on the pricey end (still competitive with other local barbers) but worth the price. Love that they take their time and are extremely detailed. 10/10...

Lovely space & energy but never have I met such a rude and dishonest barber (Jerron Robertson Jr) and I still had a terrible cut so I went to another barbershop straight afterwards to undo the damage!! The rest of the barbers seemed waayy more professional. Avoid this place if he’s available. It makes sense that barbershops need repeat business and recommendations but Jerron doesn’t...
