I LOVE this restaurant. My favorites that are perfect and flavorful and delicious: Zazang Myun (jajangmyeon) Zampon (jjamppong) Tang Sue Yuk Ganpoong Shrimp Over the years we’ve eaten at many different Korean places but this restaurant is special and in my opinion, one of the best. It’s for sure a hole in the wall, there’s nothing fancy about it. There is one lady running front of the house and and one guy cooking in the kitchen (I think) and they are magical. I just ate there yesterday and I want to go back again today. And it must be said that their noodles are chewy and yummy. The broth in the jjamppong is so flavorful and spicy I could drink a bowl of it alone every day. Also, when you walk in, greet the lady who runs the place (she is a friggin boss) in Korean. She always greets everyone in Korean and it’s just nice to reply back to her even if you don’t know anything other than Annyeonghaseyo!

This Korean-style Chinese restaurant located in Oakland, California, offers a variety of delightful dishes such as Tangsu-yuk (sweet and sour pork), fried dumplings, Jjajang-myon (black bean paste noodles), and Jjampong (spicy seafood noodles). The fried dumplings were exceptional, boasting a crispy exterior and a succulent, well-seasoned filling of pork and vegetables. The sweet and sour pork was equally impressive, with a delightful blend of sweetness in the sauce complementing the perfectly fried pork strips. While the noodle dishes were enjoyable, the texture of the noodles did not quite meet expectations, lacking the desired hand-stretched quality. The green chili sweet potato noodles provided a tasty kick with hot chili. The service was excellent, though there is room for improvement in the restaurant's overall ambiance to elevate the dining experience.

Clientele was all Korean during my late Sunday lunch here; always a good sign. Yuyu is not a ā€œChineseā€ restaurant in the American sense but is a ā€œKorean-Chineseā€ joint. This style of food was developed by Chinese immigrants from Shandong to Korea and is highly popular in Korean communities across the world. There aren’t many Korean-Chinese places in the bay that are good but this is one of them. Both the classics ganjjajang and tang su yuk were excellent. The meat in the ganjjajang was SO tender and the tank su yuk was fried perfectly.

This local favorite, particularly among Korean-Americans, offers a nostalgic experience with its old-style Korean-Chinese cuisine. Known for its generous portions and authentic flavors, this mom-and-pop shop stands out in the community. The restaurant's survival through the COVID lockdown period speaks volumes about its loyal customer base.

Dishes: Black Bean Noodles (Jjajangmyeon): Less sweet than usual, these noodles are made with minimal sugar or artificial sweeteners, offering a healthier option without compromising on taste. Seafood Noodles (Jjamppong): A popular choice, featuring a rich, flavorful broth packed with seafood. Sweet and Sour Pork (Tang-Su-Yuk): Another favorite, perfectly balancing sweet and savory flavors.

Service: The owner works hard to prepare delicious dishes, reflecting a deep care for her customers, despite her somewhat aloof demeanor. Service is slightly below average but not rude.

Ambiance: A casual dining spot with limited seating, the restaurant is often busy, creating a lively atmosphere reminiscent of a Korean-Chinese restaurant in Korea.

Additional Information:

Price: Reasonably priced, offering good value for the quality and portion sizes.

Parking: Street parking is required and paid. Be cautious not to park illegally to avoid tickets.

Overall, this establishment offers an authentic taste of Korean-Chinese cuisine with generous portions and reasonable prices. Despite the slightly below-average service, the dedication to quality food and the bustling, casual atmosphere make it a...

Let begin with a preface that I probably have been going here for 10 years. Walked in for lunch around 11:30. There were 3 tables occupied, table of 6 and 2 tables of 2. My wife and son ordered the zazang bop. I ordered the gan zazang. Took half an hour to get our food. Our waitress who I assume is the owner was the most unpleasant person who need to be in a different line of work, cause dealing with the public is not her forte. My wife asked for to go boxes and i hadn't eaten any of my food and my wife had majority of her meal leftover and she brings us the smallest size boxes. Of course we had to ask for bigger ones and with all her charm and personality finally brought those to us. I WILL NEVER STEP FOOT IN HERE AGAIN. I'm sure the owner could care less with the constant revolving door of Korean students at Cal and all, but go down the street to Koryo and get a...
