Easy to book via the website, and we started right on time when I arrived for my appointment -- I didn't have to wait two minutes for Frank to finish his last cut and get me situated. I'm not a very conversational person, but I was thoroughly entertained the whole time by Frank and his mates. A great space, cosy and personality-filled; the staff clearly invested in this neat little spot.

My cut feels clean and on point with the pictures I showed Frank, and I walked out with it neatly styled and volumised, too. Exactly how I wanted. Awesome value for a perfect cut! (I paid 30% more for a cut in San Francisco for a cut that was considerably shorter than I expected based on the same pictures I showed, so I definitely consider this worth the price.) Fantastic given I only had front and side angles of the actor to show Frank, but he did a spot on job with the back based on the style and time period. It feels even more worth it considering that it was not only a nice service, but a great experience. I have a good few shows, films, and bands to get into, and some great local experiences to check out based on Frank's knowledge. Man definitely knows his stuff with hair and much more!

It was also incredibly helpful to hear him talk through how he was going to handle the haircut, why he was using the tools he did and how it would help texturise my hair, etc, and about how to style my hair and what products he used. I've never great at working with my hair or knowing what's good for it, so it's hugely appreciated.

You had me at great cut…. This review has gone unwritten for far too long…. I’ll say this though, almost 2 months later and this style has grown out in the most fantastic way, I still love it! Not only did Universe provide an amazing and lasting cut, the entire experience was outstanding! We felt welcomed, acknowledged, and really taken care of. I asked for a shag; my hair was not quite long enough to achieve the absolute desired style but the shape has held strong and the next cut promises to be the shag of my dreams!! My wife also received a cut, she has long, curly hair- I honestly don’t think that I’ve seen a more flattering cut on her, she loves it!! One final and important thing to mention- we will be forever grateful to Universe for showing us a kindness during a very difficult time (which is partially the reason why it has taken me so long to get around to writing this). Our beautiful elder dog was quite sick at the time of the appointment so we asked if we could bring her with us; there was no hesitation on their part in graciously welcoming our pup to the shop, it meant the world to us, and the icing is that our 16 year old dog is doing...

I'm pretty finnicky about my hair and when I moved to Oakland about a year and a half ago I picked this shop out of a hat and it's been spectacular the entire time, honestly can't believe I'm just now getting around to writing a review. It's an amazing place all around, the decor is rad, the staff are all wonderful, and I've always left happy.

I see Jude, and they're incredible kind. From bleaching to cuts, they're incredibly skilled at their craft, and have a exceedingly welcoming and friendly demeanor. They've always understood the look I'm going for and offer suggestions that make it look even better. The rest of the crew that I don't personally see are also exceptionally kind, cultivate a super friendly atmosphere, and seem to have a great rapport with their clients. Im sure no matter who you visit you'll get a spectacular service, but I would definitely recommend Jude if you come in for a cut or color, they've done great by me every single time...
