Rainbow Recreation Center — Attraction in Oakland

I really hate adding 1 🌟 because as a kid I loved this park! I was so excited when we bought our house and moved back to bring my own kids here especially after the remodel and reopening only to be disappointed. I feel the park in general has really been neglected and looks more like a prison with all the bars and locked gates and graffiti. The backside near the tennis courts/soccer area has tents, abandoned cars and trash that has been there unmoved for over a year or two and nothing is done about it. How is this supposed to be inviting to kids or the community? How do people feel safe being there? The community deserves better! Oakland can do better! Look at parks in other areas and you will see the difference. Unexceptional and a waste of a great new space. Hopefully things change soon for the kids...

My class would go about 3 times a week here. They have basketball courts one indoor and three outdoors. They have a skatepark I think that they will add gym equipment after they finish reconstructing cause I helped move it around to the indoor basketball court. Faculty was also really kind sometimes giving food to the people in need. From when I walk by it seem that they aren't working efficiently on finishing the construction cause everyday it seems similar...

They fixed this rec center up! I grew up in Oakland and I came here often. It was very nice to my old favorite rec center is pretty much new again!
