Redwood Glen Trailhead — Attraction in Oakland

Had a fantastic time walking the Big Trees trail loop starting from this trailhead! There are only a couple of steep down or uphill points, and otherwise it’s a very mellow hike through the redwoods, oaks, and laurel trees. Parking on the road was easy. There’s a bathroom near the Redwood Glen picnic area (the trail splits off to the left before you get there), but the men’s was locked and the women’s didn’t lock, BUT there was TP and running water, plus a big mural on the outside! I’ll take it. Lots of lovely benches along the beginning of the hike. Dogs must be on leash. Mountain bikers are supposed to wear bells, but some didn’t and weren’t very polite when passing— it’s courteous to call out what side you’re passing on and how many are in your group. Can’t...

The quintessential California redwood grove. Whenever someone comes to visit from out of town, I take them here. Just gorgeous and makes you feel refreshed and connected to nature. It's all relatively flat so you don't have to stay on the paths, you can just explore amongst the big redwoods. Kids love to build forts with all the downed branches. Can be dangerous on super windy days and they will usually close it so people don't get hit with...

Not a parking lot but plenty of roadside spots. No restroom. Easy loop along big trees and Bay View trail. Good for kids. Wide trail, well marked (for the most part) . Some little side trails. Lots of people for Friday. Lots of dogs. Lots of bikes. Not a ton of isolation. Can hear the city...
