Saunders & James Nail Care — Attraction in Oakland

I just recently moved to the Bay Area and was looking for my “forever” nail salon. I came to Saunders and James after having a manicure from another nail salon that went bad after three days (gel already peeling off). I walked into the salon and let’s just say the atmosphere is a complete vibe. Beautifully decorated with soft lighting. The music was giving 90s realness which was my absolute favorite era of music so I could have just sat there and enjoyed that aspect. I was greeted by the nicest receptionist who kept me well informed of the process. I was early for my appointment but I only had to sit for a brief amount of time before I was greeted by Michelle (the owner and nail artist/technician expert). I ordered a double manicure as I wanted to correct what was done by the previous nail salon. Michelle really took the time to ask me what it is I wanted with my nails and formulated a specific plan to cater to my particular needs and nails. The package I requested was more expensive but Michelle offered me a package specific for my needs and nail which turned out to be cheaper then what I requested which showed real integrity in her business practice. Throughout the process Michelle explained everything she was doing and why. I learned a lot about my nails and overall maintenance to keep them sparkling and healthy. Fifteen minutes into my manicure I was ready to schedule my next appointment. A bonus is that they keep notes on what you had done, so if you’re like me and forget when you rebook, everything is already on your file. You may pay five dollars more then some basic run of the mill salon, but the quality of the work far exceeds those extra five dollars. While I live in the Bay Area, this will be the only location I go to for my nails. Thanks Michelle for a truly professional and caring...

This was BY FAR the BEST nail salon experience I have ever had. Michelle (owner and nail tech) did my manicure and nail art and her beautiful team did a pedicure. What an all around amazing experience. Beautiful well designed, clean space. You're greeted with calm, cool music (think tame impala) + and a water or tea with never ending refills. You'll never need to ask for more they are on it! The gentlest manicure I've ever gotten. Essie products and no acrylic station so no harmful chemicals or smells. Great for an expecting or new mama with sleeping baby in tow wanting to pamper and relax. Such beautiful attention to detail to the paint job and fun nail art options. Or come with an idea and they will do it! Michelle + Miriam do beautiful nail art if you want to pre-book them ages as of time. Left feeling so taken care of and happy. Well worth the extra $5-$10 more than what you might pay at your average, run-of-the-mill salon for the quality environment + staff + nail art + overall experience. I will be back SO soon! They are only soft open and already had to turn some walk-in's away so make sure to call first and check availability or book an appointment in advance...

Going to Saunders and James is a real treat. The atmosphere is serene and pleasant from the moment you enter. They are always right on time which is a departure from many lesser salons I've visited in the area. You have the option to choose the level of experience of your manicurist which in turn allows you a little flexibility in the price you pay. In my experience, all levels provide excellent service. Each employee takes great care and pays careful attention to detail. The provided tea is also a nice touch. Being able to clearly explain your needs and have them understood and catered too is a huge plus. Great color choices and attentive staff make this a premium experience worth the slightly higher price. This is now our go to spot...
