One popular spot among the locals for all kinds of recreation is Lake Hefner, on the city’s central northwest side. On any given day, you’ll find walkers, runners, bicyclers, roller-bladers, skateboarders and more enjoying the trails that circle the lake. Catch some of the city’s most glorious sunsets at Lake Hefner, as well as some waves, especially if you’re into sailing or water sports like kitesurfing. On the lake’s south side is the Lake Hefner Golf Course; on the east, at Britton Road off the Lake Hefner Parkway, are restaurants that sit on the lake.
LAKE HEFNER RESTAURANTS
Red Rock Canyon Grill is a local favorite, in large part due to a spacious patio on the edge of Lake Hefner. Enjoy some local Southwestern flavors while taking in one of the best views of the sunset in the metro. Enjoy watching the sunset over shimmering Lake Hefner at the Hefner Grill while devouring fresh seafood with an Oklahoma twist, like the shrimp and scallops enchiladas covered in an ancho cream sauce.
RIVERSPORT AT LAKE HEFNER
The mild waters of Lake Hefner make it a perfect spot for kayaking, and RIVERSPORT Adventures makes it easy with kayak rentals during the summer months. You can even sign your budding water adventurist up for a sailing camp.
LAKE HEFNER TRAILS
Circling Lake Hefner and the surrounding area are paved trails for running, walking or cycling – and the views can't be beat. Start your day off on the right foot with a sunrise run, or take a sunset stroll after an indulgent meal. Wherever you roam, don't miss a pit stop at the...
Read moreWhile in OKC on business, I finally managed to visit Lake Hefner and photograph the lighthouse. Lots of nearby parking for folks who don't want to walk, a beautiful restaurant situated facing it,(I did not try it this trip - I tried a new place in Moore, see my "Crimson Melt" review!), and a great bike trail/jogging path that goes around the lake as well. This lighthouse was constructed in 1999 and is a replica of the Brant Point Light Station built in the US in Massachusetts back in 1746, although this structure is 36' tall, whereas the tower at Brant Point is only 26' in height. There is no public access to the interior of this structure. Sunset photos here are spectacular, and there are lots of shore birds to enjoy watching, as well. I'll definitely be back to get some of those magnificent Oklahoma sunsets with the lighthouse...
Read moreBeautiful spot in okc. You can go around the whole lake,( lake hefner**) its just over 9 miles all the way around. Theres spots to go fishing or take your boat out. Great spot to watch the wind surfers as well! Awesome park for the kids as well as prime picnic areas all around the lake. Louies is the cheaper restaurant with lake views. there is also an awesome but maybe more pricey mexican restaurant with views. And few more really great restaurants, all with views of the lake. There are bike and walking trails all the way around the lake, rare for okc! But the lighthouse specifically offers the best pic. People often get married or host photo shoots here. Benches...
