Despite being just off the busy Route 580, this park is tucked away in its own little world, with a diverse range of tropical trees, plants and trails. There is also a nice little visitor center, with various exhibits, including tanks showing off some local wildlife. It is a low-key, fly-under-the-radar gem. With the slightly stormy weather, the park was pretty much empty, though beautiful nonetheless.
There are three short (0.7, 0.4, and 0.3 mile) trails that show off some of the different landscapes, including a variety trees, plants and the chance to see some wildlife.
The park borders up against Mobbly Bay, which ultimately connects up with Old Tampa Bay... almost like a bay within a bay. A boardwalk trail takes you to views of the bay and through the interesting ecosystem that makes up the space between the water and the dry land. Mangroves (or at least trees that seem like mangroves) make up a lot of this transition section.
Upper Tampa Bay Park was not originally on the itinerary, but turned into one of the highlights of this trip in Florida. I loved the various trees and plants, and the trails were short but showed off a lot of different terrain. What an unexpected treat! I'd totally go back for a leisurely stroll and to take in the beautiful...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this park, it's a real jewel. We hiked the three trails: Bobcat, Otter, and Eagle. Each trail is different and enjoyable. The Bobcat Trail meanders through a salt barren, very pleasant. The Otter Trail skirts a salt marsh. The Eagle Trail passes through slash pines and palmettos. All of the trails feature well maintained boardwalks. On each trail you will find placards describing the wildlife: Black Vulture, Eastern Coral Snake, Oppossum, Armadillo, Cotton Mouth Snakes, Gopher Tortoise, and others. All of the trails are well maintained and very walkable, kudos to the park staff. Near the Otter Trailhead there is a nature center and canoe and kayak rentals. The park features many attractive shelters, a volleyball court, and playgtounds. The hiking trails are suitable for anyone in average shape. There is a $2.00 fee to enter the park, which seems fair when one considers all this beautiful park offers. We found parking to be no problem. I would love to visit this gem again, it's excellent!...
Read moreThe Upper Tampa Bay Conservation Park provided an exceptional venue for our father’s celebration of life ceremony, and we are immensely grateful for their generosity and support during this difficult time. From the moment we arrived, they ensured everything ran smoothly: parking was easy, and their staff, including Ethan, Daniel, Cedar, and Cindy, were attentive and caring throughout the day.
The second-floor building offered a stunning view, creating a serene and picturesque backdrop as we honored our dad's memory. Their constant presence and willingness to assist with every detail made a profound difference, allowing us to focus on sharing memories and finding comfort in each other's company.
