This was my first experience having a baby at EAMC (my third child). I want to begin by saying I had an excellent experience with Hospitalist Alverson, Anesthesiologist Dr Williams, OB Dr Young and ALL of my nurses ... except for my labor and delivery nurse, Emily. This is why I am leaving a 4 star review instead of 5. I am leaving this review so that the same thing doesn't happen to someone else in the future. Looking back on the experience with Emily, so many things happened that were red flags. First, minor, but she didn't acknowledge my husband in the room; she brought another nurse in with her to help with something but was having a conversation with her about how she needed that nurse to cover for her while she took a nap that night because her kids had a school thing the next day she needed to go to (nothing wrong with that except for the fact that she had this conversation in a patient room who was in a labor); she NEVER checked my dilation; she failed to order the epidural when I told her I was ready for it (my husband had to check to see when the Anesthesiologist was coming only to discover they were never called); when Anesthesiologist Williams came up, he asked about my dilation and nurse Emily told him that I was 3.5 cm (my husband questioned whether or not that was my current dilation because I was 3.5cm when Alverson had checked me 3-4 hrs previously-- I'm pretty sure I was 9 cm by the time I got my epidural); Williams asked the nurse to turn on the light for him so he could begin, and my husband had to tell Emily where the overhead light was; after I got my epidural and bolus from Williams, my husband noticed my epidural was not hooked up to the medicine to keep it pumping into me- Emily went to get another nurse to help her connect it and started giving me bolus after bolus but it only made me sick; when Dr Young got to the room, I think she knew something was off when I was still in so much pain and vomiting; my water ended up breaking and my son was ready to be born not long after. I felt every single contraction. After my son was born and the other amazing nurses cared for him, Emily asked me if I could get out of bed (with her and another nurse's help) and walk across the room to get in a wheelchair AFTER I HAD AN EPIDURAL. The best thing she did for us was get after birth pictures. I write this to say I did not feel advocated for by my labor and delivery nurse. If I had not had my husband there, no one would have known what was happening and I would not have been taken care of during that difficult time. Again, every other nurse and doctor was fantastic and cannot say enough good things about the rest of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was in the ER for 7 hours. The doctor, Dr.Weets did not have good communication skills and acted almost like he did not care. The nurses was great and explained what was going on a lot more better than the Dr did. The technicians didnāt relay over my request to my nurses. I was in pain with the IV they had in my arm and they didnāt tell the nurse I wanted it taken out (5 hours into my visit) . Since no more test where needed I was just waiting on my shot I thought they could go ahead and take it out since I was in so much pain. They didnāt remove my IV until they told me I could get up and get dress to go home. I had to call them back in and they returned 30 minutes later and I told them I couldnāt get dress with the needle still in my arm. On top of that, the Dr could not explain to me directly where the shot was injected. I had to ask multiple times what do I need to expect going forward, how long I need to rest, is there any complications I need to look out for before he could give me a somewhat of an answer (which was ātake whatever you feel like taking, do whatever you feel like do just donāt have sexāš) He basically had the nurses to give me the shot then told me I was good to go. But after asking him multiple times he finally explained what I needed to do after the shot(rest for the next day, no intercourse, follow up with my obgyn within 2-3 weeks) Like isnt that suppose to be explained ? I should have to pry out answers from my doctor on what to expect and how I need to be for the next few days . I ended up taken the next few days off of work (since that was what I wanted to do). I understand that some shots are good for you to go back the next day to work but some are not . I express to every nurse, doctor, technician, and radiologist that this is my first pregnancy so Iām not sure what I need to do for the shot I got. But no assistance really only from the two nurse I had. I TRUTHFULLY HATE I FORGOT THEIR NAMES But they were AWESOME. They encouraged me by saying everything was going to be fine with my baby. Even though the doctor kept saying I was going to have a miscarriage either way it goes. (I was thinking what was the purpose of getting this shot of I was going to lose my baby either way it goes ? And of course he couldnāt explain) Iām trying so hard to keep a positive mindset and not stress until my appointment with my obgyn. BUT If it wasnāt for them (the nurses) I donāt know what I would of done. Oh and, when I had to take a urine test there was blood all on the floor and toilet in the bathroom. They didnāt have a trash can in there but a paper...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreLet me tell you! My time with everyone in labor and delivery was awesome! I had my girl the 16th of September after being induced. I just wanna say, Raygan (hopefully I spelled it right) you are so amazing!! You made me feel heard and you always checked on me! You never made me feel like I was being too much, even when I was embarrassed some of the times. You will always hold a special place in my heart! I hope you get everything you want out of life, because you absolutely deserve it! Karson, you were so amazing as well! Thank you for also taking such great care of me and always making me feel great! Thank you for flipping me when I needed and even though our time was short, you were amazing! I hope you also get everything you want out of life! I cannot remember the other nurses, but everyone was so kind and helpful! They cheered me on during the pushing part and made me feel so much better and that I was doing a great job! The anesthesiologist was so wonderful too! He was on top of what he needed to do with my epidural and answered all of our questions. Postpartum, I wished I wasnāt so tired that I forgot all of their names, but they were so great too! I spent those couple of days being cared for along with my husband and daughter. I never felt so comfortable! I also wanna thank the lactation specialist who caught my daughters jaundice in time. I hated her being under the light, but as long as she was healthy! The only downside was having to feed her the formula I was provided because we found out later that it caused her to have blood in her stool, but there was no way to know that the formula would have caused that. I wanna say Heather and I hope I am right, during our last day, we really appreciated you so much from the pediatric part of the hospital. Letting us meet your family too, you made me feel so much better about breast feeding and you made us feel like youāre known us for years and I appreciate you so much! I really wished again I could remember everyoneās names, but the other nurse that had my daughter at night, you were so helpful! Also, the lady who told me tips and tricks with breast feeding, I followed everything you told me to do and it WORKED!! Like the other nurse said, you know your stuff!! I have no complaints at all about any wing of the hospital we were put in and thank you guys so much for making my delivery, postpartum and my daughters time in the pediatric care, so wonderful! You guys are so amazing!!! Iād definitely do it all again if I ever got...
