I was in the store about 6:30 PM on a Friday (Today). I was going to buy a new $60 Xbox One game. A game that for the exact same price was offered at no less than 6 other stores within 5 minutes of this location. However, I was going to trade in a previous Xbox and several games for store credit. One of the only benefits of this kind of store.
In fact, this store is almost always higher then Amazon and other brick and mortar stores nearby. Often their used games are as much if not more than I can get a new copy for. However, I try to support local and smaller businesses whenever possible. In this case, for this type of store, their size, and being unable to compete with bigger chains, the only and I do mean only thing that sets them apart would be their customer service.
Unfortunately, the slow and apathetic person working the store this night has caused them to permanently lose a customer. I have had faster service at the post office and the BMV. There was only one other customer in the store, so it isn't like they were busy. This gentleman was buying multiple used games. If you shop here or at similar stores, then you know that they run the games through a machine first, which is a good thing. In this case though, this employee instead of reviewing my stuff and multitasking for a paying customer right in front of him, he kept answering the phone instead. I waited for over 20 minutes. It takes a bit of time per game that he's cleaning, so he could have done more.
He finally decided to communicate with me, but not to help or be productive mind you, but to ask if I brought in a controller or the cord that connects it to the TV. He advised me that it seriously impacts the trade in value of my Xbox. He stated that he normally gives $20-30 for those two items. Since it is a 360 and you aren't even going to charge that much for the items in question in your own store when they sell them, I find this highly unlikely.
Never the less, I wait a little longer and no progress. Eventually I put the new game that I was going to buy and start packing everything that I brought back in the bag. Mind you, he is literally about 3.5 feet from me, but he doesn't say a word. When I have everything packed up, I say have a good evening and he simply says you too. Never once questioning why I was leaving or packed my stuff up or offering to assist with my purchase. He just apathetically lets a customer walk out. This store cannot afford to be so careless with their customers.
At this point on principle alone, I was willing to just keep my stuff and go pay full price at any one of the other stores in the area. I did however call their other location off of High street and spoke to the manager Michael. I explained the situation and he was very nice and accommodating. Unfortunately, since I had to go do other things before I went home, this wouldn’t have helped now. I appreciate his effort, but they have still lost a customer and I hope that this gets addressed with this particular employee. There is another gentleman that works there and he is great, but wow. If you can't compete on price then you better make customer service your priority.
If you go, good luck and I hope that you don't get the same...
Read moreI will never go back to this store or any others in their chain. I bought a copy of Pokemon for the Game Boy Color. It had the box which was cool but it was in terrible condition. They still wanted top eBay prices for it. I got it with trade credit so I didn't mind the sticker shock. Pokemon games' batteries are notorious for going bad from all the use. Which is what happened to my old copy. I made sure to double check with the manager (bald guy with a dog) that the battery worked. Not only did he say it worked he kept going on about how great the label looked (it looked like any other played copy, which will come into play later). I went home and the game did not save at all. I went back to do an exchange. When I went back the same bald guy w/ dog was there. He flipped out when I told him the game didn't work. He said I was lying and I was trying to cheat them. I had a suspicion he would try to pull something like this so I brought in my old copy of the game. I showed him that the labels were in the same condition and that the batteries in both did not work. He seriously told me how they were a mom and pop shop and made me look him in the eye to tell him I was not lying. After that he said I would have to wait a few days for their tech to do a proper job at switching the batteries. I picked the game up at their N. High location and the guy their was a pretentious dbag trying to justify why they charge so much more for games than what you can get them on eBay. I got my game. I am through with them and you should be to. If you want to get rare video games and not be treated terribly go to Warp Zone, Capital...
Read moreBest used game store in town. They have a couple locations around Columbus, but each of them are well-managed. You can buy, sell, trade, and even try games they are demoing at some locations.
The owner is a real people-person, and it really shows through all of his staff across the different stores. They're friendly, sociable and always willing to negotiate with you. Most if not all the staff are gamers at heart, which enhances the shopping experience. You can always rely on them for the latest gaming gossip or excellent recommendations.
The selection includes games and consoles as early as 1st generation consoles from Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, etc, and even earlier systems can be found at times! You'll also find all manner of movies, TV shows, accessories, merchandise, and so much more. Their pricing is probably the most reasonable I've seen out of all used game stores locally (so long, Gamestop!) I've never felt ripped off in any transaction - in fact, they were willing to reprice something entirely when I showed them how competing stores were pricing the same game.
If you can't find what you're looking for at one store, they can always check the database and let you know if their other locations stock it. And if the game still eludes you, they'll even put you on a call list and notify you the moment a copy becomes available at any of their locations. Game hunting has never been easier!
Don't forget to check them out for new releases as well - they stay on top of things just like any...
