We reserved the only reservable shelter at this park for our church group, and overall, it was a great experience! The shelter was conveniently located near the playground, and the walking trail was a nice bonus.
The Good:
The park grill was in decent condition, and we were able to use it without any issues. The electrical outlets were a big plus, allowing us to power our electric smoker grill. The tables were in nice condition, and the shelter provided ample space for our group.
The Not-So-Good:
The outdated reservation schedule sign was a bit confusing - it would be great to update it to reflect current reservations. The portable toilet near the shelter wasn't the most convenient, especially with a nicer restroom option farther away. The park grill's design made it hard to control airflow, which affected our grilling experience.
Overall:
Despite some minor issues, we had a great time at the park, and the shelter was a great spot for our group. If you're looking for a park with a reservable shelter and some nice amenities, this might be the...
Read moreOverall this is a pretty great park with a ton of space. We frequent three dog parks within a short drive, Stoll, Shawnee Mission, and Leawoof. This one is the closest and by far our favorite. While it doesn't feature a dog beach or an agility course, it does have the best paved walking path out of all of them and the best open green field. The muddy areas they have poured gravel in and it has helped immensely! It would be fantastic if they cloud add an agility area, since the space is there!
On the downside this park does not allow pitbulls, tundra shepherds, or any wolf hybrids. There are no bad dog breeds, but there are bad dog owners. My German Shepherd has gotten harassed by Golden retrievers, aggressive terriers, and a couple German shepherds. I've heard of a few dog fights and human casualties, but I haven't seen them first hand. If your dog doesn't come reliably, pulls on a leash, and doesn't know basic obedience it shouldn't be off leash. This...
Read moreThe main attraction is a dog park that is several acres large that has a paved trail loop about 2/3rds of a mile long, which winds into and out of a tree line. It could be improved with more benches, some shade in the small dog area, and the type of in/out gates like they have at Shawnee Mission. Still it's the best daily-driver dog park in the KC metro imho.
Aside from the dog park, it's a quiet, safe, spacious park. There are plenty of open areas where kids teams could practice. There is a nice playground. There is a shelter house with a grill and tables. A small pond with a fountain and fishing for kids. There are a handful of EV charging stations, and paved paths throughout. Only problem is that there is just one portapotty for the whole park. This park would really benefit from...
