The beauty of the California coastline is always something to behold. However there are a few spots in Mid~Cal that are something to write home about such as Big Sur where the youngest land mass on the continental U.S. exists, Monterey Bay with the most vibrant sea life in most of California. But the area North of Monterey up to San Francisco is truly amazing. The human history is special with such things as the days of 9ld with the Russians Whaling and the Scandinavian" Navy" hauling the timbers from the Redwood gold rush then the a tual Gold Rush and all the abandoned ships being used as landfill in the bay. The Rum Runners of prohibition and the intensified use of the Civil Guard during world war II. All of these things are amazing to stop and take in the history but there really is nothing that compares to one of the areas where all of these things took place which is Half Moon Bay to San Francisco. This is also where the infamous San Andreas Fault runs straight through the heart of Silicon Valley and jets off into the great abyss of the Pacific Ocean at Devil's Slide where the pavement seemingly gets as many miles as the cars that travel on it. To the South and the East are some of the most beautiful untouched areas of open space that you could ever hope to see. If you hike mountain bike or just enjoy casual walks in nature this is a. Area that you won't...
ย ย ย Read morestarted hiking the trail around 3:30pm with the aim of seeing the sunset from the top. took me about 2 hours to reach the top and 1hr 45mins to descend. this included a couple of rest stops and a couple of photography breaks. Personally the trail is moderate to strenuous if hiking during the day. the temperature was about 75-80F. Carry plenty of water. The views are best along the route than at the top. the only thing that would have made me 5star this trail is if it had distance markers along the way. an ideal way to spend an evening on a weekend- hike this trail starting afternoon, end it around sunset(depending on how fast/slow one hikes), spend the sunset time at the beach. while descending take the gray whale cove trail for...

Depending on the weather, you might get a nice and cool misty hike with low visibility, or one with some really nice views with a lot more sun. Either way, be prepared for a decent ascent. Most of the trails are quite nice and wide, with the exception of the Grey Cove ones, which are more dirt paths.
Not a whole lotta people even on the weekends. Overall not bad for a nice hike and there's plenty of spots in Pacifica or HMB to grab a...
