A Sunday at Montara State Beach We didn’t plan much for Sunday—we needed some air, some space, and a little silence. When we arrived, the parking lot still had a few open spaces, even though it’s small. The cool breeze hit us first—sharp, salty, and refreshing. The sound of the waves was loud but steady, like they’d been crashing for centuries without ever needing to stop. There weren’t many people around. A family was having a photo session. A few people were just lying on the sand, eyes closed, letting the wind wash over them. Some had books. Others didn’t need anything at all. I saw dogs of every size—big shaggy ones and tiny ones in sweaters—trotting beside their owners on leashes, tails wagging as they explored the shore. We sat a while with our dog. Letting the wind tug at our sleeves and the roar of the ocean fill up our head. There’s something about Montara that makes you feel small in the best way. Like the world can be big and wild and loud, but still gentle. Still kind. we’ll be back—next time with a book, maybe. Or maybe just a blanket...

I love this beach and have been dragging my girls over the hill for 20+ years. It is quiet slightly secludedand has a little of everything I look for in a beach; it has a few shalow tide pools; it has caves; it has a dangerous area; it allows fires; draws marine life, I have seen dolphins many times in the surf 50ft of shore!. The draw backs are parking, No Lifeguard, and the walk to the beach. The steps are in conveniently placed, so we ussually go thru thr drainage area next to the parking lot. Very steep slightly hazardous! I'll close with the port-a-potty, adjacent to state parking area. I know this beach isn't everyone's perfect beach, but...

This is probably one of the top 5 scenic spots along the peninsula! Also probably one of the least known! Vast empty beaches with amazing views on either direction! Amazing, giant waves! Gorgeous through and through. If you are looking for a nice place to set up a picnic or just to have your feet buried in the sand, look no further. Montara state beach is definitely...
