Shirck Orthodontics — Attraction in Pataskala

As someone who has generally had less than pleasant experiences with dentists and an orthodontist in the past, Shirck Ortho was honestly a such a good experience and it felt great to leave the office with less anxiety than I had when I arrived.

My appointment was a consultation, and it was blessedly straightforward and quick. Pictures and x-rays with no fuss, and with an abundance of care to ensure it was not painful.

Talking to the actual orthodontist - I felt there was zero salesmanship in the office which was such a huge highlight. I was direct from the get-go that since I am older, I was NOT looking for the "perfect" smile, but just wanting to hopefully try and clean up what I already have going on. And that was that - they didn't try to push the notion of a perfect smile on me or strongarm me into even considering it! They listened to me, and took it seriously! That has never, ever happened before for me in regards to my teeth!

The orthodontist was very frank about treatment and that what I had originally come in for would not be feasible and what would work instead (jaw surgery, I passed on that one). She was so patient and kind and I'm pretty sure answered the same question from me at least twice. Bless her.

With a potential treatment settled upon and discussed in-depth in regards to what it would entail over the duration, hashing out the financials was a breeze too. Payment plan options were flexible, and any and all fees were clearly listed and explained. They even emailed and texted me a link to the payment breakdown to refer to if needed while making a final decision.

I’m a travel nurse based out of Columbus and took a travel assignment 3 hours away. Towards the end of my pregnancy the account manager forced me to stop treatments due to the fact I couldn’t make it to my appointment. I was told that I could come back to get my brackets removed, however, since I couldn’t keep up with my treatments I could not continue regardless of my situation. I tried my best to work with her (Jennifer or Cynthia) and after many phone calls my hand was forced. At the time, I was a high risk pregnancy and not even a week later I had an emergency C-Section. I’m not rating one star because I had to choose my health and my child versus my braces, however, I am rating this orthopedist a one star due to the failed disclaimer that was not given to me that my bill will be sent to collections due to me not continuing treatments. I was told that a letter was sent to my home, however, with being a travel nurse I never received this letter. No one called to verify my living address. This place is a scam and is unethical!!! No one should have to pay 5,000 for unfinished job and should be presented all the facts before making this decision! I’ve had braces 3 times now and when moving from one city to another (dad was military) there has never been an account sent to collections due to unfinished treatment. As you can see I’m very upset and I’m more upset Jennifer or Cynthia refuse to speak with me regarding this life changing...

I’d previously left a review recommending Shirck Orthodontics, but wanted to come back and update my recommendation. We’ve always had wonderful experiences with each of our three daughters at their office. Our oldest has completed her treatment and her smile is perfect. One of my other daughters has always struggled with severe dental anxiety - she’s otherwise happy and healthy, but anything with her teeth created so much stress and fear for her. We found a dentist who was wonderful with her, and I knew I wanted her to be able to be treated at Shirck, after a positive experience with my oldest daughter. I explained her situation to the staff, and let them know she’d require a little extra patience. From day one, each staff member has been kind, caring, and patient. She had an expander placed a few months ago, and this past Thursday she had her braces put on. Throughout the process on Thursday, she was happy, smiling, and calm. I was amazed! I never thought we’d see this day! We are so grateful to Dr. Jen and Karina, and the entire staff, for making this such a wonderful experience. Our youngest will be getting braces there soon, too. I highly recommend Shirck...
