This restaurant is certainly it is the best thing in Pataskala! It is not my favorite Nepali/Tibetan/Indian place but it is very good!
Raayo saag is one of my favorite dishes and something I always order at Nepali places. The raayo saag here is fresh and green so that is good, but it does not have any ginger, hot pepper, or other seasonings that define the dish. I will definitely continue to order it though, assuming they have it. Tonight, they did not have it. :(
I love momo, especially jhool momo and chili momo. I am not disappointed with these dumplings- they are very good, with the chili preparation being my favorite. The jhool momo is also good, but covered in more of a gravy rather than floating in a soup.
The mushroom noodles are quite tasty and will be my "go to" dish at Indian and Nepali Kitchen.
All the other veg dishes are just "ok" and the bread is not very good. The plain naan was very dry and the Kashmiri naan had very little in the way of filling.
The online order system is ChowNow and we will avoid using it in future. First of all they add sales tax to each order, which is incomprehensible, as take out in Ohio is not taxed. Who is getting that tax money? For me, this means no tip is given, but this maybe penalizing the restaurant if ChowNow is the one getting the tax money. In addition there is a $2 usage fee.
There have been problems with our orders each of the 3 times we have ordered. Two out of three times, the restaurant has been out of something, but that was not disclosed until the order was picked up. They would not issue a refund, citing that a refund is something we'd have to "take up with ChowNow." They did allow us to substitute a different dish at least, but this is less than ideal.
Once we ordered garlic naan ($1 more) and received regular. Another time we ordered veg momo only to be informed at pick up that they had none. Today there was no saag and the samosa were absolutely SWIMMING in a puddle of old stale oil. Really sickening.
Overall the food is not bad, but it is lacking in seasoning. The flavor is very much on the surface, without the typical depth and complexity of this cuisine. Dishes are not spicy, even when requested. The exception to this are the chili momo, which are appropriately hot.
Indian and Nepali Kitchen is a welcome addition to the "good food" desert of Pataskala, but I fear they will not last if they do not address some of the issues I have...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place for a while, and finally did. I walked in at 730pm and noticed there is very limited seating. I saw a woman standing behind the bar so I asked her where I should sit. She didn't seem to understand what I was saying. She asked me if I was there for pickup. I told her no, I was there to dine in. She came around from behind the bar and I told her again I was dining in by myself. She pointed at a table. I sat down expecting her to bring over a menu. After several minutes she went to two other tables and took their orders then walked past me with menus. She came back a few minutes later and finally dropped off a menu. She came back about 15 minutes after that and asked what I would like to have. I asked her what was better, the butter chicken or the chicken korma. She mumbled something and just stared at the menu. I asked her again which one she would recommend. She didn't seem to understand what I was asking. She mumbled butter chicken in a confused voice, so I decided to try that. I also ordered some saffron rice and some garlic naan. She asked me if I wanted anything to drink. I told her Coke was fine. I waited for probably 45 minutes for the food to come out which seemed a bit excessive for what I ordered. She eventually brought the drink over with the food, but forgot the naan. The food was very good, especially the naan dipped in the butter chicken sauce. As I sat there eating, I noticed other people were having problems with her understanding what they were saying. She didn't really seem to know what she was doing. I don't know if it was her first day, but that's the impression I got. From the time I was there, one table had problems ordering and getting their check. Another table had a problem with her not understanding what they wanted to order. Another table had a problem with their bill. There was a guy there who I assumed worked there, and spoke very good English, but he seemed to be more focused on sitting down the whole time instead of helping the server. I finally got my check and paid after being there 2 hours and left at 930pm. I'd like to try it again, but not if the service...
Read moreI have been here twice. Both times were fabulous.
I went the first time to try the restaurant. The second time I ordered for my wife and myself. My usual experience with Indian food is more along the line of a buffett. That is not the case here.
When trying the restaurant I ordered a dish named "Butter Chicken. I'd had this dish before at a restaurant in Seattle and had enjoyed it very much. It was not a dish that I had expected to find in a place named "Joey's Bar & Grill". But it was good, so I decided to play it safe and I ordered it. This was better. So much more flavor and the portion size is off the charts. I ordered it medium spicy and it was perfect.
(As an aside, I am from the west coast and have found that this region of the country generally has a different notion of what spicy is than I do.)
When I ordered for my wife and I, I ordered the Butter chicken and the Chicken Tikka Masala. Again, the food was very good. If you're new to this cuisine, I would suggest ordering the Chicken Tikka Masala. So smooth and pleasing. The chicken they use is mostly cubed breast meat.
The addition of this restaurant in this area is most welcome. I can only hope that others will find it as...
