I never know if I should rate parks on my expectations or with what they promise. I guess I'll go with a lil bit of both. This park is exactly what if promises. A board in the middle of the reservation area. The board walk is a solid 5 minutes walk and well maintained. No trash around the park. You can also rent a canoe. Even though some were full of water. Saw one snake, and a few turtles and fish. It's a bummer you can't do anything "fun" here. No fishing, no drinking, no smoking, no skating, no boats, and specially no pets. If you want a park just to sit down and watch a swampy area. This is perfect for you. Anything else you want to do go somewhere else.

Deeply Disappointing Experience – Exclusion of Dogs Undermines the Purpose of a Nature Trail

As an avid nature enthusiast and responsible pet owner, I was genuinely looking forward to experiencing the Chapel Trail Nature Preserve. The concept of a walking trail—particularly one designed to encourage outdoor exploration and connection with nature—should inherently support the inclusion of well-behaved, leashed dogs. Instead, upon arrival, we were disheartened to learn that animals are strictly prohibited.

This policy not only alienates a significant portion of the public who consider their dogs companions in outdoor recreation, but it also contradicts the fundamental purpose of a communal nature space. What is the point of a serene, public walking trail if those who walk daily with their dogs are not welcome?

In an age when access to green spaces is critical for both mental and physical health, especially among urban pet owners, this exclusion feels archaic and out of step with the values of accessibility and community. I urge those managing the preserve to reconsider their policy and align with more inclusive practices found in other leading nature preserves across the country.

Until then, I will not be returning—and I will recommend others with dogs seek more welcoming...
