After the hustle and bustle of all the Smithsonian museums, our family decided to try this smaller museum that was extremely close to our hotel. We didn't see anybody else, so we were unsure of where the front was, but eventually found the "visitor's center" entrance. Upon entering, you will be greeted by guards that will request IDs and will screen bags as you enter the premises. Once you are past the screening area, someone will escort you to a small area that makes up the museum. This little place is chock full of little bits of history as it walks you through the late 1800s through the early 1900s and into today. It talks about heroin, opiods, and methamphetamines. There are examples how it was used during the 1920s, how drug use reduced during the world wars, and picked up again afterwards. At the conclusion, it does talk about treatment options, to round out the tour. There was also some current event items like the capture of the Chapo and showed some of the weapons he used. Our family also looked at a real motorcycle that was captured by the head of a motorcycle gang. There is a small gift shop where the kids did pick up some DEA beanie bears. If in the area, it's worth the stop and full of interesting facts and exhibits.

It’s a very small and hidden away museum that is deeply haunting but definitely worth checking out. Keep in mind though that it’s in the actual DEA building so it requires a short security screening and A visitor badge in order to get in. Like it’s nothing super invasive like a background check or a cavity search, just showing your ID and getting your bag Xrayed. A little more high security than the Smithonian but a little less than the Airport. Still despite its small size I totally recommend checking it out if you’re in the area. It’s an intriguing little oddity hidden in the DMV area.

Interesting displays and information on drugs, etc. A bit of a hassle, security-wise, getting in. I asked a security guard, “Is that the gift shop?”, and she said, “It’s closed”. No explanation. Seriously, that’s why I came! They should put that on their website. Don’t ya hate that? Note to self: Call ahead! (same guard told me not to touch door it’s automatic. Well, it didn’t budge so I opened it. She didn’t like that. 🤷♂️) The woman running things for the museum was super nice! So, go for about 1/2 hour or so; bring ID. Oh, and call ahead😜

The DEA Museum has reopened and it's all new and fantastic. Interesting, educational, accessible, and especially relevant today. The gruesome photos which I found disturbing when I was here a couple of years ago are gone. Families don't have to be concerned about taking kids here. Lots of interesting displays and interactive screens make information on artifacts readily available. Across the street from Pentagon City and close to the Metro and buses.

The museum itself is very small. It's inside the DEA building. Have to show ID and then go through metal detectors, but I think it's worth it. The faces of fentanyl pictures on the wall were eye opening to see. So were the pictures of the fallen DEA agents through the years. I think the museum is done well. I would recommend it!

Although the museum was small, it had plenty of information about drug concerns, drug abuse history, and how people lost their lives to drugs sadly. I wish the museum had positive effects about some drugs too such as marijuana instead of only the negative effects since many states are legalizing marijuana, which was biased.
