The best thing about this place is the atmosphere and queer friendly vibes. Other than that.... I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're trying to grow out your hair. I've been growing mine out for 4 years but you wouldn't be able to tell because any time I ask for an inch or two off they cut off 4-6 inches. I went from past nipple length to the top of my armpit this most recent trip. It's also hard to stick with one stylist because of frequent turnover and price increases. (Hence "they", I've had a different stylist almost every time and these are repeat issues). Also if you prefer to wear a mask, they stopped asking you to move the mask straps when cutting side burns and just try to cut around the mask? I even ask if they want me to move the straps and they say no and end up effing up my side burns so I have to fix them when I get home. It's also telling that the most senior stylists here have only been cutting hair for 5-6 years.
Edit: I had my hair cut by one of the master stylists in nov 2024 and at that appointment she told me she had been cutting hair since 2019. 5 years. And for that appointment I was asked to come earlier than my scheduled time but wasnt taken until 15 minutes after my scheduled time. Then the 45 minute appointment I paid $65 for was rushed into a 30 minute haircut so the employees could leave right at 8 even though the salon running late was not my fault. And the haircut was so rushed and messed up I wore a hat to thanksgiving. But I felt rushed out of the salon by the employees so I didn't feel like I could say anything, they cared more about leaving on time than giving me a good haircut.
A refund for these services will not grow my hair back. So...
Read moreBrutally heartbroken and disappointed about my hair. I’ve only heard good things about Talking Headz and have been recommended several times by many folks. Prior to going to Talking Headz, I was going to another salon for 14 years and left because I received results that wasn’t great the last time I was there. I was stoked to go to Talking Headz for the first time because their work looked awesome and everyone hyped it up. I was initially quoted $250 by their stylist. Afterwards they discounted $50 bucks from the service because the stylist realized how the results were completely far from what I asked for. Upon further inspection after service, my hair is patchy, orange, and the balayage that I once had is completely disconnected by the patches of brass from my roots. Attached to this review is a reference photo of my hair before service and a picture of what I wanted my hair to look like. I just wanted my roots to be brighter (like the picture) and my overall hair to be brighter and a little warmer (not darker) since my original balayage was ashy. I’m literally so wrecked to go outside and I can’t keep my hair down because it doesn’t look good. I feel really bad for even writing this review because the stylist was so sweet and kind and the manager offered to tone my hair for free, but after this session I totally lost trust. If you want creative color and cuts, this place seems to be the salon you want to go to (when I was there everyone’s hair looked amazing) but I’m not sure if they can manage blonde...
Read moreUPDATE: They did in fact give us the full refund I asked for, and the manager called me back. I trimmed the bangs myself and got them into some semblance of order, and the layers in the back actually came out of the salon looking pretty good! I am seriously thinking about getting my own hair cut here, if I’m not banned! Dry cutting with curly hair is very important. Clearly, some of their stylists are deservedly popular, while some are not ready for prime time.
Please look at the photos below. This wasn’t even all the mess—when she walked in the door I immediately saw that there were long stragglers on the sides. We are driving out of town tomorrow for a big family celebration tomorrow, so we don’t have time to come back and have someone fix it (definitely not the lackadaisical stylist who did this). This is extremely inconvenient. For this we deviated from our regular Supercuts routine? We demand a full refund. Perhaps the most damaging thing she did was to cut back my daughter’s already too-short bangs, without consulting my husband at all. So it’s back to square one on growing those out. Mind you, nothing can mar my kid’s beauty, but the stylist sure gave it the old...
