This memorial is dedicated to the memory of the American industrialist and Union Army soldier George Westinghouse, inventor of the air brake and other things. His air brake made items such as the locomotive engine operate with vastly greater speed, safety and efficiency, helping build America in the Reconstructionist / Industrial Age, following the Civil War.

There's something tells me this guy Westinghouse wasn't very benevolent to his workers. Probably a lot of his workers died penniless from accidents and cancer in the pursuit of these "wonderful" achievements of his.

While Tesla and Einstein are household names a lesser know name to the masses is Westinghouse. Come and learn more about his amazing engineering feats and reflect on your future possibilities at this memorial.

A beautiful and peaceful oasis inside the larger Schenley Park. The memorial was lovingly restored to its 1930 splendor in 2016, and is now also ADA compliant. Easily accessible from the road, the memorial and lilly pond provide a tranquil spot to walk, read, or just have a moment of quiet reflection. The memorial itself is a beautiful work of art and highlights the many accomplishments of Pittsburgh resident George Westinghouse throughout his life. An interpretive sign near the entrance provides details on the memorial design, artistic elements, and...
