Read moreThis is a long walking trail (roughly 29.2 miles long). It's used by bicyclist and nature. It not the most scenic or challenging walk. It's mostly straight. You'll be exposed to the sun so make sure you're protect with sun screen or a hat. There is also exposure to wild animals and you might find yourself alone in stretches so keep your eyes open and watch your step. Personal safety is top priority. Overall it was a decent paved trail. I walked roughly 10 miles (5 miles in and 5 miles back) . Very few bathrooms and sitting areas, so if you're going to begin a trek, make sure you're prepared with comfortable shoes, water and relieve yourself before you go. Also remember however long you walk into the trail you'll have to walk back out so judge wisely. I did have a good phone signal in the time I was out there, but I didn't see much in terms of markets to identify where I was at on the trail. Their was distances on the side walk, but nothing that would be useful if you needed help. Again be focused and prepared. If you get overheated or bitten by a snake or animal, there isn't many options for help. I liked the trail. I get to walk with nature and actually get to my level of...
Read moreI just finished my fourth visit to the Van Fleet Trail. This time I started at the Polk City trailhead and went south on the TECO AUBERNDALE TRAIL and then 10 miles up the Van Fleet trail. Both start at the Polk City Trailhead. There is good parking and a Pavillion , but I didn't find water or a bathroom (Toilet up a half mile and water up 10 miles). I first went down 7 miles on the TECO AUBERNDALE TRAIL. Good paved straight trail through mostly farm country and municipal fields. Water is along side of the trail starting at 5 miles. Uncovered benches every half mile along the last part. A trailhead at the end with benches, parking and bathrooms. A good part of the trail is along and under power lines. Then I went 10 miles up the Van Fleet trail. Some places are getting a little rough. But the trail has good trailheads about every 10 miles. Still a very pleasant ride with...
