I decided to stop at The Purple Pit Stop in Polk City on my way back from Cleremont as it was lunchtime, and I was starving! I was greeted by the friendly staff at the walk up window. I knew through a little research before I stopped that Friday's special was the fish fry, but it would have been nice to be told that when I walked up. No biggie. I affirmed the fish fry was the special, and that's what I ordered. The plates are made to order, so be prepared to wait a few minutes to get your order. The food comes out in an acceptable time and freshly cooked! The fish was crispy (maybe a tad too crispy), and fish was fresh, flakey, and tasty. Fries were perfect, and there were plenty of them. The plate also came with tarter sauce and a tiny bit of coleslaw. The tarter sauce was good, the coleslaw was not. Overall, I enjoyed the fish fry plate and walked away satisfied. They also have the Rolling Gormet food truck. I have had the burgers and tacos from the food truck. I really enjoy the burgers, but tacos are...well...tacos. If you're ever in Polk City I would recommend a stop at the Purple Pit Stop for a bite!

The popular item is the taco, raved by many. Unfortunately, it is not pleasing to many due to several reasons. Price for 3 tacos $12! Crunchy outside slim on meat and only red cabbage slaw. Comes with a side bowl of au jus! Flavorful au jus since the beef, pork drippings firmed this flavorful broth. Quite confusing to serve tacos with au jus. Crunchy taco skin is unsuitable to dip in to the broth. So, drink it! Fries was soft crunch. Nothing amazing. Pork tamale was disappointing. Masa was too soft, too much liquid. Pork meat was minced, not shredded. Too stingy on the portion. The size of the tamale is no wider than 1 inch and no longer than 5 inches. I prefer that they charge more instead of selling the slim picking tamale for $3! Not worth it. Small portion and improperly prepared! I should have know when the tamale cooked in wax paper and aluminum foil! Do not recommend to others! Outdoor seating in a small town is quite a place to brag! The only one of it's kind in town!

So we pass this place every day just about and finally decided to stop by and give it a try. We had the beef tacos and the chicken tacos. We also did an order for popcorn shrimp and the bacon bbq fire burger. Each meal comes with fries and let's just say we have enough for dinner. We also ordered a root beer shake and Pina colada shake amazing it's something different. The sauce was placed on the side and the young lady gave us a heads up on the sauce being very spicy and having ghost pepper in it. Lucky for me I love spicy. We will be back for more. I have no complaints I would suggest when u do sauce on the side a half of cup will be enough (sorry I hate to waste)

First if customer service was good. No complaints there! Food was made quick and everything was correct. The shake was good too.

Now the food: Let me start with I am first gen Mexican and was so excited to hear that we had a place that made tacos, quesadillas and birria tacos. I was prepared for authentic Mexican food.

When I came home we were quite disappointed. The Mexican cuisine isn’t what I would call authentic. So just a warning for those who come here for that. The birria tacos are suppose to be fried in the consume with cheese for the soft juicy flavoring. These were dry and had a really weird bbq like seasoning on the tortilla that was overpowering. Also they have some purple lettuce in them. I’ve never seen that. So birria tacos are a no for us.

Same for the quesadilla. The tamales are $3.50 yikes! I get mine from someone for $12 a dozen. And they are massive and authentic

Now the fish fry was good. The fries had the same bbq/Cajun like seasoning that the tacos had.

I would say for the prices and the food it was ok. I definitely wouldn’t consider this authentic Mexican cuisine. Perhaps the burgers and hot dogs are more on par. My family has been wanting to try the Mexican cuisine but I would not recommend it. Do try the other...
