Every year, a wave of pre-health applicants from UC Davis flood professional schools with near-perfect GPAs and laundry-list résumés: research assistantships, leadership roles, shadowing, volunteering — all on paper.
But those of us who’ve been on the inside — in admissions rooms, clinical rotations, and professional school cohorts — know the uncomfortable truth: at UC Davis, GPA and undergrad research access aren’t always about talent. They’re about politics, games, and knowing how to flatter the right professors.
It’s a system that rewards compliance over creativity, and performance over purpose. You don’t get ahead by being the best — you get ahead by staying in line, saying the right things, and playing nice with department gatekeepers.
By contrast, WesternU looks deeper. They admit students who’ve earned their credentials through actual clinical work, independent thought, and resilience — not just resume-padding and polite silence. I've seen students from lesser-known undergrads outperform UC Davis grads again and again — because they were trained in substance, not strategy.
So if you’re coming from UC Davis thinking that GPA and a stack of research bullet points will guarantee your spot — just know: WesternU has seen it before. It’s...
Read moreThe medical office on the second floor has a few rather rude phone staff.
One receptionist named Crystle in particular is quite grumpy , there is at least one else there with a similar name so maybe confusion lead to her not being repermanded. The one with a similar name fills in for doctors when they are out of office and is a pleasure to talk to vs the lady who works reception though.
I would not name names usually but it is to the point staff at other medical facilities that had to call them bluntly asked me are they normally that rude all the time.
I suggested western U to a family memeber, who asked the same thing after the first call. Both times I said no it is just one or two the past year or two. I thought it was just me being awkard when making prior to that.
Cutting people off and telling them to talk to anyone else ,about things they can and do handle when the phone call is not ended and someone else called. Due to the other person being able to finish what they were saying or asking.
I reported this prior but it has continued.
Otherwise I have generally good experiances and staff is friendly and...

UPDATE 2023: On the cusp of looking for another PCP. Have been going here for 10+ years. Things were good until my PCP realized she couldn't fix me. She admitted that the medical system did me wrong, herself included, then proceeded to lie to me.
She had staff call me last year to say she wasn't seeing patients anymore and switched me to another doctor. Come to find out, she's still seeing patients.
Western University also stopped with the 15-minute grace period but did not inform patients. I found out when we got there late but not 15 minutes late. Was told the reason for the change is so the docs could take their time with the patients and not rush.
Guess what else works? Not double booking patients! It's not about you it's about the patients. Or it...
