We’ve been going to this park for the past several years and have always noticed a homeless presence in the pavilion directly next to the children’s fenced in playground. I’ve seen them smoking stuff(can smell weed), drinking beer, drugged out, walking through the kids park to access the electrical outlet at the top of the enclosed kids park or to cut through to use the restrooms. Today I watched a homeless man by the entrance ask a women alone with her child walking in for money, another guy walked through to grab his charger at the top of the park while smoking a black and mild. I’ve witnessed a man in a wheelchair, constantly hanging out inside the top going through the enclosed fenced in children’s playground smoking cigarettes, drinking beer. Cigarette buds littered inside the entrance of the kids playground everywhere. beer cans left in the kids playground because they stay overnight Weed packages by the infant play set. Gates always left open no latches recently reached out to the park recreational department to put in a request to have operating latches on the children’s playground gates when I receive the response, “that’s what parents are for”. Yet we have a new pickle ball court with operational gates with latches… she also told me you can’t put a lock on a gate meanwhile the gate directly opposite of the entrance has a deadbolt lock on it. I’ve emailed the mayor of Pompano city about this issue. upon our recent return We noticed that a latch was placed on the one gate leading to the homeless encampment 10 feet from the playground but not the others literal acknowledgment that THAT gate is an issue because of the homeless problem.lol can’t make this up. I’ve called public safety the police department and it seems as though for private paid events, you can have an officer present for constant duration of the event, but we can’t have a single present officer all day at the kids park to ensure children’s safety until the issue dissipates. The homeless presence is there because they know the police presence isn’t there. It’s quite pathetic and honestly, it’s disheartening, reckless, and endangering to the children. This is an ongoing problem. This problem has been presented by the community as you can read in the most recent review. I have brought up this issue to several park rangers they say they are all aware of this problem as a lot of ppl complain and there’s nothing that can be done because the city of Pompano is not enforcing anything. Though he did say the next week should change because they are gonna start cracking down on the homeless issue. Let’s cross our fingers but not hold our breath… and just to note i don’t care if your homeless, smoking dope, being a self damaging individual, just don’t do in front of kids. Have respect for them even though you have none...
Read moreWere two events going on today, Miles for Smiles where reportedly 200 participants walked or ran to raise money for the charity. There was also Stash Kick Ball to raise money and firemen and women from Rivera Beach, Boca Raton and two divisions from Pompano Beach fire rescue competed in kickball competition. There were four teams and three trophy's were awarded for first, second and third. Amazing turnout and beautiful day in Pompano Beach. This was the second year for these events. Let's hope more fire rescue teams from Florida come next year. Cert, Pompano Beach Community Emergency Rescue Team, was in attendance. They are the backup for police and fire rescue doing any evaluations emergencys like car accidences, fire incidences and storms like hurricanes or any severe weather we here in Pompano Beach experience. They may be first on the scene to assist and evaluate everything from victims to hazards in their neighborhoods. Neighbors certified to help anywhere they can in as recently the Panhandle of Florida after the hurricane. The park has everything our community needs for recreation with the family in mind. Come out and experience...
Read morePompano park is quite a spacious area to frolic with you kids or get a night job/workout at. There are tennis courts, two full size basketball courts, a racked ball wall, playground, and workout stops around the 1 mile path as well as plenty of field to place catch. The playground is fenced in for those concerned parents, but it is a bit close to a major road (US1). It has a bathroom, that at the moment is in reconstruction, and water fountains as well as a pool connected to the park. These is also a second playground area a bit deeper in the park near the baseball fields and pool. This one has much higher fences and is away from any major roads but is smaller. Overall, this is a wonderful park, but beware, it is a common place for the homeless in the area.
A little added extra for this park, there is an Aldi directly across from the park. So if your picnic needs a few missing things, you won't...
