La Bodega de Méndez — Attraction in Ponce

Bottom line: incredible wine selection, best prices per bottle on island (they are 1 of the 2 main distributors) however a lot of high end stuff around which makes overall prices seem high. Boogie ambiance, which I feel affected their initial customer service towards us negatively.

Long line: the entrance is semi hidden as there's a gate to their private parking. Disclaimer: in all honesty, we showed up in hiking attire after having gone to Puente La Hamaca earlier in the day. On arrival we browsed for wines we knew, and noted that there wasn't anyone on the floor. Looking for help, we felt as though we were placed low on the priority list as we saw other customers being attended to. This of course changed when we came wanting to open two bottles on premises and a block of cheese, which is why I'm calling them boogie. Place was filled with 50 somethings in business casual so I guess they thought we weren't buying, but doesn't really excuse them in my eyes. Overall the savings don't warrant a drive here if you're driving from either San Juan or Aguadilla unless you're going to buy...

It is always a good experience when going to the Bodega de Mendez. They have a very wide array of different wines from many countries in all continents with trained staff to help you pick the wine that suits your taste. It is a great place to spend the time as well. Cold cuts served in house too and have a good selection for whisky fanatics. Good for a early unwinding during the week as they close...

What a selection of good wines! The Bodega de Mendez is so much more then just a liquor shop - we have not yet found such a large selection of good and some extremely good wines, with emphasis on Spain, but also a comprehensive and high quality selection of France and US. There is a small but top notch selection of food like old Manchego cheese from Spain etc. available. A paradise for wine...
